"You are two people away from the leader of the most powerful country in the free world and you're wearing flip-flops?"

Am I wrong....or does this recent fashion scandal say something alot deeper about the state of our society???444959.jpg

Not just a comment on today's youth....in post-visity interviews, the majority of their parents support the way they were dressed.

They are clean, neat, and wearing dresses. Their footwear is likewise clean and for today, fashionable. Those are nice looking young women! I can't help wondering why you focused on their feet when viewing this photo. 😉

X, that is what the article in yesterdays news was about. The brother of one of the girls sent an email saying "you wore flip-flops to the whitehouse?"

The email got around and made the news.

CaribbeanSoul I think you are 100% wrong about this!! It is my understanding that all of the girls were respectful and friendly to the president. It's just f|_|cking shoes. If this is news then we have bigger problems than this truly non-issue.

They should've worn 6" spike heels and mini skirts... now that would've been a NICE picture... 😉

I someone hadn't pointed it out to me I wouldn't of even noticed.

And even if someone had said look at there feet I still wouldn't have known what the big deal was.

The girls said..

During an appearance on NBC's Today Show Monday, player Kate Darmody and teammate Shelby Chlopak said players planned to auction off the flip-flops they wore to the White House, with the proceeds to go toward a fund for a 10-year-old girl with a brain tumor.

The women have defended their attire, arguing they wore a dressier version of the casual sandal.

"Nobody was wearing old beach flip-flops," said Josephs, who wore a $16 brown pair with rhinestones.

Darmody, 22, added: "I tried to think of something that would go well with my outfit and at the same time not be that uncomfortable. But at the same time not disrespect the White House."

I see nothing wrong at all.

But then I'm from San Diego, where any shirt with buttons all the way down the front constitutes formal wear.

When I look at this picture I think:

mmm...nipple, nice hair, sorry-nothing, low-cut, mmm...nice cleavage - are you nice hair's sister?, Hey Prez, Wow--so very very nice, nice legs...hey, WTF?? are those flip-flops?, nice smile, junk in the trunk.

That's how I noticed the flip-flops : )

I know the family and the girl that they are auctioning off the sandals for. She was their inspiration in winning the National Championship.

The parents told me that these were all mature, polite, intelligent young women - the kind of girls you want your daughter to grow up to be.

The team still corresponds with them regularly.

These children are an inspiration for us all. They battle everyday and you wouldn't know they were even ill because their attitude is amazing.

A complete non-issue. I'm sure if you look at all of the photos of all of the sports teams that have had the same photo op with the prez you could find several other fashion / social mistakes.

By the way - this is the Northwestern University Girls Lacrosse team - it is a long amazing story of how these girls won the National Championship.

Once again...point missed. I think that it is wonderful that they are auctioning flip flops for a little girl. I think that it is wonderful that they are an inspiration to every girl athlete in the world because they won a National championship.

My point is....and it is MY point...I feel these girls, and THEIR PARENTS, should have a little more respect for themselves and the Office that they were visiting. Whether you like Bush or not...you gotta respect the Office of the President!

I agree - they should not have worn flip flops - I was just telling another bright side of the story.

I always look at things as if the cigar is still half left not that it is half smoked

I didn't miss the point. And how were the parents being disrespectful? They wern't visiting the President. These aren't young children that need their parents to dress them. Plus the parents said..

A front-page story in the Chicago Tribune included the headline "YOU WORE FLIP-FLOPS TO THE WHITE HOUSE?!" inspired by an e-mail sent to player Kate Darmody from her older brother after he saw the photo on the team's Web site.

Family members of other players expressed similar disdain, insisting the summer footwear staple was too casual for a visit with the president.

"Don't even ask me about the flip-flops," said the mother of player Aly Josephs. "It mortified me."

To me, if someone had not pointed the flip flops out I wouldn't have noticed. And I don't think a lot of other people would have either.
