sgates correctly identified the referee - Vince Lombardi (according to my uncle, his folks owned a sporting goods store in Teaneck). Actually, Lombardi served as an offical in high school athletics quite a bit - even in basketball, baseball, etc. He went on to coach St. Cecilia's High School in Englewood, NJ before serving as an assistant at Fordham, West Point and the New York 'Football Giants' before landing the head coaching job in Green Bay.

I don't think there are any Lombardi ties to Middletown, maybe St. Olivet was the cheapest option for the frugal Lombardis...who knows?
