The reason I listed the Punch auction was to demonstrate that if someone gets your number as a HOG bidder (and someone obviously got this guy's!), one of these days you are going to have the privilage of paying 35% OVER retail for one of your greedy little bidding stunts. I hope that chump enjoys his $5.50 PITAS! LOL!!

The guy is going to pay 35 bucks over retail for a box, and he doesn't even get the box! As Nelson on the Simpsons would say....Haaahh Hahh!

I'm not pompous but I have been called an ass a few times. Ok maybe more then a few times.

Goldengoose, you don't like that this guy is bidding on everything and not wining the bid. So why don't YOU drive up his bid but not enough to win. He will win a bunch of the lots at a high price. We probably can't afford to win forever. That way you beat him at his own game.

Either that or wait for the next auction. There are always more cigars.

I am pi$$ed off at people who outbid me except for the times that I am relieved. Boys and girls, none of us have a right to win any bid at all, and CB has a right to rub their hands with glee over how much they can get for some of their surplus without a pistol and a mask. Try looking from both sides. I have had winning bids on some good gars here, and some I wish I had been outbid. It's only an auction.

LLT, you're sure right about sometimes WANTING to be outbid ... lol ... yesterday, I bid on several lots in which I had interest ... I bid pretty conservatively, planning, even KNOWING that I'd be outbid on some, most or perhaps even ALL of them ... you can imagine my surprise to find I'd actually won them all !! ... that's only happened to me once before ... where are the overbidders when you need 'em? I sure could've used some yesterday ... lol

I might take the time to teach this guy a lesson sometime if he is ever stupid enough to actually set his bid limit to something high enough to actually WIN an auction rather than simply screwing everyone else out of a good deal.br>
Some of the other less cautious HOGS are already getting a little lesson in the downside of greedy bidding styles as demonstrated in that $135.00 box of Punch Pitas without the box I showed you guys! LOL!! :oD

Bottom line...I have no problem with being outbid by someone who knows how to bid properly, but throwing handfuls of darts at a dartboard hoping to win the tournament is hardly going to make you many friends at the pub and could very well get your ass kicked! ;o)

I'm new to CBid, and to cigars in general, and still a little young and naive, so please be gentle.
GGoose, I just wanted to say that I'm glad that you did bring this up.
While I agree with the others that folks here have the right to irritate the hell out of everyone else,
and overpay for there smokes by jacking the bids up, I was starting to wonder if this kind of behavior was the norm.
From what I can see, it looks like there may some bad apples, and a few folks that are a beer short of a six pack, screwing up some auctions, but over all, everyone here seems OK.
Also, want to say hello to everyone...so...hello.

Thanks Utz and welcome to the forum. As you can see from this thread, we have a lot of folks here that don't bother to read the previous posts in a thread before replying, so be prepared to post and repost your opinion several times till the "slow ones" finally catch on. ;o) . As you clearly were able to deduce from my previous comments, I was not complaining about OVERBIDDING. The subject of overbidding never entered into my comments or the subject of this thread.

As far as CB goes....This site is a great source of bargains if you know your limits, bid early and know the WHOLESALE as well as STREET PRICES of the items you bid on. I have done very well on this site in the last two weeks. I won most of the auctions I bid on and I won WITHOUT screwing other bidders out of the remaining quantities. I basically bought over $975 bucks worth of cigars and accessories (street price not retail) for just under $500 bucks. Not too shabby! :o) My three LARGE humidors are now completely FULL again, and I will be sitting back and watching for the next few months until I need to renew my supply. :o) Good luck!

I'm suprised there aren't more California bidders bidding on whole lots. I would think that the outrageous tobacco tax burden would drive a lot of people to bid in that screwed up manner. I think some people have more money than brains. Living here in CA, buying my gars online or on CB is the only way to go. I think I have saved more than 50% on retail (not including the extra taxes CA tags on) buying online. I can understand why people would try to hijack en entire lot but you'll never see Rayder doing it. I'm a cheap bast%$d. Glad to have stumbled across this forum. Good to meet you all.

Another point to bring up (if it hasn't been done before) is ... bidding on the whole lot just might get you the 'one' or 'two' you originally wanted, but at a lower price ...

I've done this several times, and won '1 out of 5', when I really only wanted one in the first place.
