Hello, I was wondering if anybody has two spare Opus X bands that they no longer need. A friend and I are using them for our current "project". You will be compensated. Please email me if you have any information. Thank you!

My guess is that the project is to put the bands on some Lone Wolfs and give them to some cigar snob and see if he likes them or not.

Oh, I forgot to describe our project:

We purchased plain clear glass ashtrays such as the Cohiba one that is available on this site, however they do not have the Cohiba emblem on the bottom. We are creating a collage of bands using bands from some of the best cigars, and most personal cigars, that we have smoked to date. This collage will be in the shape of the bottom of the ashtray, and be attached to the bottom so you will see it from above. So far it seems to be turning out pretty nice.

Next on our list, we are purchasing some really nice chests from an antique store, and lining/prep'ing them into a humidor. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Is this what you are aiming for?

I borrowed this from the CF site, and hope Cable Guru dosen't mind.

He posted the link 4/18/01, so I don't think he will get too upset about it.

Slim, we are doing something like that, however, not exactly. The bands will not be aligned in a patterned or planned manner. They will be laid across eachother, every which way, to form a collage of bands that will take up the entire bottom portion of the ashtray.

I got this idea from a catalog I saw - the cover was a collage of bands - and I thought it would look nice. Either I will like it, or I will ruin some of my best bands from some great cigars.

I am working on a project just like this... however mine is different.

I have been collecting bands for about a year now. When I have enough I am going to glue them all over an old humidor I have. Then, I will paint the whole thing with clear satin polyurethane. I think it will take about 10 coats until the whole thing is smooth as a baby's bottom. You have to sand between coats... (but skip sanding on the first and maybe second or you will scratch the bands.) As far as the seem, I have some ideas which I know will work... got them out of a wood working catalog.

It should be impressive when I am done. I have to pass on many of my favorite Padrons and pick up others with colorful wrappers. I really want this thing to look colorful!

Drob, try using a fine grade steel wool intead of sandpaper. Especially in the later stages. Good luck, and I'd like to see pictures too. I'm thinking about doing an outdoor kitchen and using my collection on the posts of the tiki hut. I'm still planning though.

DrMaddVibe Is absolutely correct! Use 000 or even 0000 steel wool ... sandpaper would have disasterous consequences.

Just come look at the antique 'hard rock maple' butterfly-wing table I just refinished ... it's going to take me forever to undo what I did to it.
