Ok gang...Here is a little shout out to our Milwaukee area friends....and a shameless plug as well.

Saturday November 12th 2005 at Derry Hegerty's Irish Pub (54th & Bluemound)..

The Greater Milwaukee Area Pipe and Drum Band (of which I am a member...bagpipes...) will be hosting a firefighter vs police chili cookoff.

I am also a firefighter and will have a chili entered into the competition. Festivities begin at 3pm and go until roughly 9pm.

This is our one and only fundraiser for our band. The primary mission of our band is to be available and to play funerals for our brother and sisters that fall in the line of duty in the Wisconsin area. It is not a duty we cherish but one that we feel needs to be done. We also march in many local parades and play requested engagments that are more lighthearted. The money we raise goes to help pay for band supplies. Kilts and transportation should we have a road trip. we are also saving to go to Washington DC in 2007 as the host band for a HUGE memorial.

This is not a request for funds...

This is just to let all the BOTL's/SOTL's in the area to stop out and play for a day...to vote for MY chili...to come smoke a cigar or two (derrys is cigar freindly) and enjoy an afternoon. We have lots of entertainment lined up as well as celebrity judges (KB from WKLH, Charlie Sykes from WTMJ Christine Finerty of Milwaukee Magazine) The Milwaukee Fire Dept Chief as well as The Milwaukee Police Department Chief will be on hand as well.

Our band will be playing. Celtic Nation Pipe band will play. Folk singer Barry Dodd will be there along with Irish Dancers...The Main Band is "Frogwater" a local group that is really a ton of fun. Raffel tickets are available on site for what we believe is one of the greatest raffels around and very well run. Tickets are available thru me for $5ea. (email me and I will get them to you ) or are just $7 at the door and that gets you all the chili you can eat (or until it runs out). At this time we have 7 different chili teams signed up.

Last year I took 4th out of 5 entries so I am coming back with a vegence!!!!! I have tweaked the recipe and am ready to go.

its a lot of fun.....and yes I will be wearing my kilt.....so stop on out!!!

Thanks.

Mav, Sounds like fun! My wife is crazy about Milwaukee for one reason, Mader's rueban rolls (not sure about the spelling on any of that. I think I got rolls right!). We'd love to come, As long as Andytv can't make it. Nothing against Andy, but mixing him and unlimited Chili inside a confined space, with cigar lighters being used, could be deadly! What's the raffle prizes

Oh, come on! Milwaukee has a lot of great things! A sausage factory, Maders, the bead show, ginko biloba trees and botls and sotls to meet in the flesh! What more could I ask for? (How about that it is not during midquarter week . . .)

The warden won't stand for that. She'll make me go!

What's Jacks? Don't wanna miss out on Chilli. I wanna see if those cheese head firemen can make enough chilli for me to get all I can eat. I'll be wearing my fat pants, usually only worn for thanksgiving and trips to OCB! LOL

Mrs. Tank, I'm in if I can work it out. I don't think autistic kids with sensitive ears and drunking bagpippers pipping are a good match so, I need a live in sitter for the day (mother in law).

Also need confirmation on Andy, or the lack thereof!

Come on Ruggys!!!!!!!!

Mrs Ruggy we would have to set it up for another time but I bet I can out Mader Maders on thier Rueben rolls!!! (all us firefighters do is cook and eat ya know)....Ruggy...Bring TWO pairs of fat pants brother!...

And us much as I love music and its effect on the human sole....lets face it...it is drunken bagpipers...so that might be a bit tough on the young guy....Solo sober bagpiper maybe (that could be arranged sometime as well) also....there is no such thing as a quiet bagpipe...our dogs scatter when my wife and I practice at the same time!!!

I am not sure of the raffel prizes yet but I will post a listing as they start to come in. In years past a couple of the biggies were a weekend stay at the County Clare (local Irish B&B) Packer footballs multiple Guiness stuff..coffee packages, tool assortments, TV,Stereo...etc...

Oh yeah....I will also be baking some stuff for the bake sale (think chocolate/peanut butter cheesecake)

More to follow!!!
