Freedom of speech is one thing, but there are also guidelines that must be kept in check to keep this forum credible. As much as I respect what that stands for ... I can't agree with what the Aryan Botherhood is doing with the right of free speech. Sure, they have the right to say it ... but it doesn't make it right. I know that is a drastic example, but see my point?

Also, why would anyone here want to post to another cigar BB, when this site was designed and set up to do just that, be a 'cigar & related' forum ... in a retail cigar site to boot ... to talk about cigars and the like.

Parameters must be set, and kept in check, and it's all our responsibility to do just that ... or this site will become diluted to the point that it will be just one of the thousands of other sites that clog bandwidth.

I personally, would like to see that the calibur of this site be kept respectively above standard ... and mantain a little dignity, and still have lots of fun while at it.

It seems to me, if people don't want to talk about cigars and related issues (which could entail a great many topics) ... why come here?

My sentiments exactly ...

no reason in the world it should be any different here than real-life, in-person conversations would be ... I equate this forum with the bunch of guys who regularly sit in the club chairs at one of my favorite local stores ... other than the woman who works next door in the jewelry store who comes in, smiles and says hello or even chats and harmlessly flirts a bit, we all smoke cigars ... we comment on our favorites (or those we don't much care for), humidors, lighters, cutters or whatever ... we talk about women (one guy even has a small pair of binoculars he uses to scope the parking lot at certain moments), the weather, our jobs, or whatever the hell comes up in conversation ... some topics are touched on lightly, then the thread of the conversation moves on as before, others change the thread entirely ...

Quite importantly, NO ONE gets upset by it nor does anyone take exception to the dark-haired gal in the often low cut dress whose interest is not necessarily in cigars ...

Why this forum should be any different escapes me entirely ...

Steve -- internet BB's are totally different from 'real live' conversations, in that no one can see body language, hear voice annotations or facial expressions.

Just out of courtesy, threads should be kept on topic for the simple reason of readers being able to follow them in order to get the information that the poster was trying to seek.

They have to be treated differently than face-to-face conversations, simply because it is a totally opposite form of comunication ... and should be treated as such.

That's why they have set up a whole list of 'internet etiquette' guidelines to go by ... so that the recipient of a post is not offended, or takes something the wrong way.

No doubt in my mind, that if every one of these conversations were done at a gathering somewhere in person, the outcomes would have been totally different.

Slim, as always you have made valid points. I must admit that if evere there is an question asked about cigars or anything related to cigars you have the answer. And I respect you for that.

Many people, myself included, look in at this forum after checking out whats up for auction, and frequently it has provided me with a little good information and more importantly alot of laughs.

Usually, a cigar related question is answered within the first two posts....after that they evolve into silliness. But lets face it...how many times can we go over proper humidification and coolerator construction.
As I remember it, it was you who posted the "beating the dead horse" photo. I also remember you posting that i should see your horse photo after complaining about overbidding. Something I still havent forgiven you for. 😉

But, even looking back at the postings two years ago they were just as off topic as they are now. Not much has changed.
I really don't know what happened to pis$ you off so much. But your constant attempts to get this board "back on track" is apparently falling upon deaf ears and getting a bit stale. Face it, it never really was on track to begin with.
Maybe there's not enough interest in the topic of "cigars and related" to keep everyones attention from drifing to hot chicks in poodle skirts. But as I see it, this is no cause for alarm.
Anyway, in conclusion, and finally, even this is fun.

The problem with pulling or editing threads sometimes, is that it seems to drag out something more than if we just let it die. I’ll add something if it gets out of hand.



We just want to allow the forum to police itself a bit where possible, and get involved in censoring only when things are overboard.

I will continue to do what I've done for the all the years I've been on this forum, and only when I feel it's necessary (and as long as it's appreciated by the moderators of this site).

I'm only doing them a favor that makes their life a little easier (and besides, I take the fall as the 'bad guy'). They have more important tasks to occupy their work day, than sit around and read every thread here.

And, on the tame token, I fully expect that all those who my reminders seem rub the wrong way, will contiue to 'slam' me for it ... and so be it. I can take it, as well as I dish it.

For the most part, I do it only when new folks arrive, because those that have been here awhile, already 'seem' to know. Just take it with a grain of salt, and don't be so 'thin skinned'.

Maybe someday I'll get bored with it ... and stop. But it's just one of my personality quirks, and it's not meant to disparage any 'one' individual ... I mean no harm to anyone.

It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it....BTW, when DID you first start posting here? I don't know when this site was established...Just curious. Really.

No whining to the moderators at all ... Keith, Gonz and the gang at CI/CB are my friends, heck, almost like family.

We communicate on occasion with each other on a number of topics concerning this site.

Yes ... I do care, but that's just part of my character. This is a place I've been coming to for quite awile ... and it's almost like a club that I belong to. My concern helps balance it out for those who don't give a crap about the quality of this forum. If you don't understand ... that's fine.

i asked c-bid and national geographic to do some research on Slims first posting. i have been informed that there were thread scrolls dating back a few thousand years found in a cave in eastern pennsylvania that appear to be written by him. the weird part is about 1/3 of the way down the 1st scroll, the topic was threadjacked by someone wanting to talk about a golden calf.
