My bride has tasked me with finding the "best" game system for Christmas. So, what do you think is best and why? Thanks for the help.

Is this for children or adults or both? Do you want it to be able to play DVD movies? I like the PS2.

Xbox 360 is suppose to be the best, and I think they are making two of them, one is around $300 and another is around $400, get the $400 one

XBoX 360 will definately be the best system come this christmas, however, it is very pricey, and the playstation 3 will be coming in February or March. When the PS3 does come out, the 360 will absolutely drop their price to keep up. The best move is to wait and get a 360 after March. 360 is much better for sports and action genre games, the PS3 is more for RPGs, and startegy games. I am not saying you cannot get Madden on PS3 for example, just that the graphics engine on the 360 will be much better for that type of games. The PS3 has a new chipset that will allow for faster processing of multiple applications at the same time. The 360 has a hard drive for storing games and music. (For example, I have over 100 CDs stored on my current x-box. You can play the CD without having the disk. Keep the disks in the truck, still listen to them in the house. A jukebox of sorts.) The hard drive is removable on the 360.

For my money I would get the xbox 360, it comes out the 22 of this mo. Playstation's game play and response is to clunky.

oocamper - I recently was faced with this decision - here is another thought . . . . first consider what it will be used for, as rick mentions. The various platforms specialize in different things. Some are directed at kids, others for adults, etc. I went to a major game outlet (Gamespot etc.) and asked them. They were happy to show me which one will do what, what games and titles are available for which unit. You're going to find that there is a difference, not just in cost or capabilities, but what can be done with the various platforms. They're all good, but do different things. Once they show you this, it's easy to then choose between the ones that fit your need.

If it's for her own use go with the sonly Playstation Portable. If not, then wait for the PS3 it will rock, and that is for sure.

The kids have GameBoy Advance handhelds. We've talked about getting them more games for those versus buying a home system.

The kids will be primary users. At Christmastime they will be girl 11, boy 13, girl 14. Boy has a learning disability, so the normal games for 13yo boys really don't apply yet. He likes Tony Hawk skateboard stuff, but gets frustrated because he can't read the instructions and set up the game, etc.

This is great. Keep the info coming.

I wanna see someone get an Xbox 360 before 2006 without having already ordered it . . .

Sure, it comes out 11/22, BUT, in very limited quantities . . . . I ordered ours August 12, and they just told me I probably won't see it for at least a month after 11/22 . . . . . . My 12 year old son, who starts off every day with "only X more days until the new xbox" was not happy to hear that . . . .

Playstation 2 + Madden 2006 = Not worried about no Xbox.

$400 I can spend on smokes. Since I already own the PS2 and the Football game.

Bad plan. I have XBOX and no PS2 because I can only afford 1 (I'm 35, married with children/responsibilities and not much time) system and my HDTV/7.1 system says XBOX!!!

The only thing giving XBOX 360 any possibility for success is it's release date before PS3. If MS hasn't sold a ton of 360s before that comes out with it's Blu-Ray DVD playability and backwards compatibility with PS1 and 2, it's all over.
