I am wondering, with all of the knowledge and opinion that comes out on this board, why CBID doesn't set up a Review section like the CA site?

do we really need another review board?

the reason I ask is because many of the brands of cigars that I see discussed commonly on this board (mostly ones that are sold in the auction) are not reviewed on the CA board.

Smoke em and write a review. Look down the list and you will see reviews for many brands. If we had an organized review board all the reviews would look the same: Using words like complex and evolving. People would just try to out do each other.
Get off your ass and write some or quit whining!

I haven't been able to truly discern any cutesy flavors from my cigars. I think they all taste like cigar tobacco. Some good, some great, some bad, some really bad. Some smooth, some harsh...etc. I really enjoy the descriptions the people who post here give to their reviews. I can agree with most of them.

Everyone's tastes are different. Some are lucky enough to get chocolate, leather, berries, fruit (to name a few) from their (non-flavored) tobacco smoke. I have better luck with getting different essences from wine.

Moreno, I proposed this idea twice, the first time met a friendly reception and CB announced it was going to do this, the last time I proposed it, about a month ago, I was strung up with piano wire and got the message loud and clear not to broach the subject again.

aberdeen, thanks for the reality check. GetYourOwn, did you come up with that handle with the knowledge that with that attitude, some day you'll get yours.

don't read that magazine, it's 95% bullsh*t. (how conscious i have become not to offend some ass hole by using that little mark above the 8 instead of actually spelling the entire word.)

as rayder1 said "Everyone's tastes are different. Some are lucky enough to get chocolate, leather, berries, fruit (to name a few) from their (non-flavored) tobacco smoke."

lucky my ass. the only time i ever get a particular flavor, other than the flavor of smoke, is when i eat bryer's banana fudge chunk while i am smoking and, son of a gun, i get the taste of banana, fudge, and chocolate chunks.

i have never tasted one of them there bryer's, but i am looking forward too.

Lone Wolfs are a 98 out of 100. Acids suck. Remember that next time you bid. A review board will only inflate the overbidders desire to do as such even more. Personally I can't stand someone telling me how a cigar tastes like this, or that, or whatever. If a fellow smoker is impressed by a cigar then he or she will impress me more by handing me one and simply saying, "Try this out, it's pretty good." End of story. Cigars are not wine, they either taste good or they taste bad, and that is dependent upon several factors, many of which being my mood, the company I am with, how much Bourbon and 7-UP I have in my system and more importantly, what time of the day it is. It's 8:00 pm and I'm on Jim Beam tonight. I'm in my favorite bar and a little brown woman is smiling at me. I have a Sancho Panza Belicoso (Meany turned me on to them) in my case, but at the moment the Sinatra My Way (that sucks according to CA)I'm puffing on tastes just about F**king great. Buy some 5-packs of anything and experience life a bit. The days of free sex and love are over, but you can still be promiscous with your cigars. If you don't like one, pass the other four off to a bud. I'll step off my soapbox now.

adroni if you don't like cigar reviews or a cigar review board, don't read it or particpate in it! But why try to take it away from those that do? Many people do like them, and the cigar elitist here that have continously ragged on them not only don't want any type of review board, they don't want others here to have one. Did you ever stop to that think with so many cigar reviews out there, in magazines and online sites that they must be very popular with many people? People you and Get Your Own probably stick your nose down on. Many are newbies who just want to get a general idea for things as there are many cigars that are very consistent in flavor and taste, and they also prefer to listen to the advice and suggestions of others to help make their early cigar purchases. Nothing wrong with that. Others will certainly take your advice and buy numerous types of cigars and experiment more, nothing wrong with that either.

I asked myself the same question when I first found this board. Since, I have tried many cigars I was new to. Descriptions quote Smoke mag. and CA reviews. Many had good reviews and were IMO crap! The best way to sate your curiousity is to float a question about a brand (after checking archives of course). If you get a unanimous NO. Do not go near them. Mixed reviews? Give them a try. You may find one that suits your particular taste. The OTHER boards have quite a few pretentious wannabees. The thrifty, hard working, patriotic, loyal, handsome (and beautiful) true cigar smokers are right here. Fools are not suffered gladly. Watch your step.

The net doesn't need another review board of anonymous posters telling me what is "spicy","creamy", etc. If you like a cigar let people know, simple.

... and don't forget. Reviews are nothing more than someones opinion, and is way too subjective to individual tastes ... and that should be taken with a 'grain of salt'. I don't give them to much weight ...

Reviews in cigar magazines? What a joke. The reviews are nothing more than how much the cigar company is will to pay for advertising their product ... the more money, the higher the ratings. No one here really believes the cA reviews anyway, at least I hope not.

Having a cigar review board here would be nothing more than a waste of bandwidth, since we do a pretty good job giving our opinions right here. Besides, since this site doesn't have a 'review board' here already, how can anyone take away something we don't have?

I just need to keep my big mouth shut on this subject, I never learn and let myself be subjected to all this passionate disagreement over a ratng's board.

Slim, yes cigar reviews are people's opinions, but you know as well as I do there is a consensus on a number of brands. For example, almost everyone here likes 5 Vegas, and almost everyone here hates Lone Wolf. Now if I am a newbie and read all these "opinions" I would go with the odds and buy the 5 Vegas. There are many other brands that if you recall the board history also has very consisten opinions one way or the other. Hardly a person says anything bad about Padron or Mayorga for example. Some brands are very consistent in their flavor time and time again.

Then of course you have brands with very passionate feelings of like or dislike, mostly your botique brands. So obviously there and many other instances the smoker will have to buy and decide for himself.

In the past I did rely often on friends and post here (never on CA) when considering some choices. Often I will buy singles at my tobacconist, but it is impossible to judge a cigar by smoking just one, and for me I can't afford to experiment too much as there are so many brands now, and so many new ones coming along constantly, and within the brand the sizes often vary greatly in taste. And usually when I buy cigars on a complete hunch, half I end up giving away. In the past I have spent a lot of money finding a good selection of cigars suited for my taste, and had to suffer through many dog rockets along the way. Even today if I see an overwhelming majority of people here raving about a cigar it will lead me to buy at least a five pack on cbid.

Let's face it, we are spoiled for choice these days, and for me anyway there has to be a basic elimination of choices right off the top and then take my chances with the other brands, and usually I will eliminate some choices if opinions here are consistently negative.

Just read a new CA review for the HEM WOA. It had hints of olive brine and pencil lead. And it scored a 90. This is why I ask friends about cigars I haven't tried yet, instead of trusting these stupid money backed reviews.

However, I wouldn't mind a reviews section on here because I know who I share likes and dislikes with, I'm just scared it will encourage overbidding.... chris

cwilhelmi,
I tasted pencil lead once after the teacher took away my jar of paste!LoL

I find that there are plenty of on line reviews in existence already. You can review individual remarks on the CA site as well as others. CA is also good for checking MSRP. If you can't find the info you're looking for then just ask somebody here.

Slim, I hit the paragraph key on that last post! In fact I thought I overdid it a bit, but I was aghast to see the complete block text when it posted!
