Someone mentioned Italian cigars to me recently...any comments?

All I know about Italian cigars is they are generally the small dried out kind that Clint Eastwood smoked in the "Man w/ no name" Triology. Such brands include DiNobli and may have a licorice or annesette flavor. i don't know of any regular hand-made long filler cigars being made there.

I those those Clint marathons. I watch em anytime I find out their on.

Huttman, Wasn't the director Italian? I have heard Italy associated with those movies. That would be why he smoked those cigars.

Italian film-maker Sergio Leone in particular, made a series of immensely popular westerns starring Clint Eastwood as "the man with no name", most noteably, these movies included "A Fistful of Dollars", "For a Few Dollars More" and "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" ... although shot primarily in Spain, these were the pics originally dubbed the spaghetti westerns, a term that later became more inclusive of other European-made western movies ...

You might recall that when accepting his award at the Academy Awards this past year, Clint Eastwood mentioned "Sergio" among those he thanked for having helped him become what he is ... that'd be Sergio Leone of spaghetti western fame.

chick- parodi and denobili are two common versions of these cigars. havent had one lately but as i recall they are pretty rough tasting but not *terribly* bad. esp if you compare them to the white owls that they are usually on the shelf with. at least they are all-tobacco.
read somewhere that the real long ones are meant to be cut in half and shared with a friend, but that may be apocryphal.
they are cheap, get a 5-pack at the drugstore and give one a whirl.

Sergio Leone directed one of the great gangster flicks of all time, "Once Upon a Time in America" (Long version as the short version sucked) starring Robert DiNero, James Woods, and several other well know mobster actors! The long version is almost 4 hours in length and in order to run this in theaters in America they came out with the 2 hour version, and it lost all of the story line and in general sucked! Recommend watching the long version if you get a chance!

I have never met anyone else who watched and loved Once Upon a time in America. It was one of the best gangster films ever. I recently saw it again on re-run and now am on a quest to find the 4 hour dvd.

Its one of the few movies that I actually like James Woods in. I am always surprised when people rave about Deniro and never metion this show.

I think danny Aiello (sp?) was never given enough credit for his role as police man. In this one either.

Actually, the Perodis are the ultimate "chewing" cigar. Most folks I know that regularly buy these rarely light them. And for good reason.
