the republicans didn't just win big, they kicked butt. the democrats might as well go to their home district and do some gardening or clean the garage. anything they say for the next two years, minimum will be like a fart in a windstorm, not heard.

the election was like the packers playing the local high school team. the democrats deserve everything they got. they should be ashamed of themselves.

i totally disagree with everything the republicans stand for, but they know how to win. i predict bush will be elected in 2004. the democrats do not have anyone that can take him on and win.

At this stage of the game they need to work hard to pass appointees AND legislation! It's going to be tough, but now there's no filabustering or partisian bickering to get in the way.

I'm not at all sure I agree about Alan Greenspan ... if any credit for the economic upswing of the 90s belongs to Bill Clinton, it's because the smartest single thing he did as President was to keep Greenspan in place instead of putting his own guy in there ...

Clinton actually took quite a bit of flak for that decision at the time, but was smart enough to recognize that economics was the weakest link in his chain of credentials and that Greenspan was as smart and capable as they come in that area ...

There is NO doubt, however, that GWB is quite rightly PO'd at his financial advisors and will be making a lot of changes in that area ... yesterday's news of Harvey Pitt's resignation is only the beginning ... the avalanche of change might even take Greenspan along for the ride

I believe that Greenspan is severely overrated in the job that he holds. Everyone's 401K(or if it's like mine...a 101K)took a hit because he put the brakes on the economy and raised the spector word inflation.

The Chairman's job is to preside over the Federal Reserve, not play partisian! How many times did he go to the White House for dinner during the Clinton years? How many times had any Chairman EVER gone to the White House before him?

No, it's time for Crusty to go. He's a wonderful consultant, but he's the problem with the economy now. There won't be a recovery any time soon with pessimistic codgers watching the gates.

The Republicans simply had a better support team nationwide than the Democrats with their tired old platforms. Democrats have been running on same issues for 20 years, and I was wondering when will they ever get their Health Care Program psssed? Social Security...they mess it up more than help and now we have a Republican Majority in Senate-expect the Homeland Security to be passed and the tax cut to be extended while McAullife, Daschel, Clinton, Gore and team (whoops Jesse Jackson) lick their wounds and see if they can come up with a Black, Moderate, middle of the road, intelligent, veteran to groom to run in 2004!!!

JJ ... let me apologize for my neighbors ... here in NoCal the libs have us badly outnumbered and while the early returns (mostly from SoCal) showed Davis trailing, by the time the NoCal votes were counted, he'd got re-elected.

No surprise, really ... the issue was substantially settled at the time of the primaries when Davis was successful in sabotaging Riordan's campaign ... had that not happened, we'd have woke up this morning to find that we had another Republican governor whose initials are RR ....

THIS WILL BE A GREAT 2 YEARS, when the GOP sits on thier A$$ for 2 years and get nothing major done thats all the more reason why Bush will not be coming back in 2004. While I can admit that bush has done a good job thus far with all that he has come across, he can only spread himself so thin until something gives.

An additional peeve I have about the results of the Governor race in California is Davis' stated desire to ban all sportfishing in the state. Now, as one who very much enjoys this pasttime with my 12 year old son (he'd much rather go do this than more troublesome activities), it's hard for me to imagine that the days of such a wonderful local sport may be numbered, not to mention all the fishing stores, party boats, and others whose livelihood depends upon it. While I'm all for conservation, this baby out with the bathwater approach is insanity. Plus, there's nothing like enjoying a good cigar while you're waiting for the party boat to reach its destined fishing spot.

Yes Rick, the Republicans did kick butt, and yes the democratic voice in the congress will be a whisper, and yes Rick it will be an interesting two years. I had to call my very liberal sister from Mass. and find out if she was going to change parties. But alas, there are still some liberal democrats out there.

I say be careful what you wish for, Republicans. The last time they controlled the house, I felt some great accomplishments were made with the "contract with America", but arrogance and straying from the chosen path destroyed the ideology, hence, a renewed Democratic party. Power usually corrupts, lets hope this administration shows us that they represent a higher ground.

Rick, I have said in the past that I follow libertarian ideals. With that in mind, I'm not crazy about any federal based government with too much power. I've seen what crap the Democrat's dished out during their monopoly, let's see what the Republican's have to offer before we condemn them.

We often go fishing on the boats out of Newport Beach at Davey's Locker, and I am very fond of surf fishing at Laguna Beach. My mom owns a house there on the beachfront, and it is a great place for fishing the surf. Sometimes, we just have fun fishing in the harbor at Newport and Balboa Island. My son pulled a 25lb. batray off the dock at Balboa earlier in the summer--that was a bit of excitement! We live in the San Gabriel Valley, so most of our fishing is local So.Cal.

Hey JJ: Yeah my son is very hot to go on one of those San Diego boats sometime. The lucky skunk was fortunate enough to go on a private charter this summer where he landed a 30lb yellowtail. He's the boat addict--knows all the capns and deckhands at Davey's Locker by name. His goal in life is to become a deck hand there--I'm hoping this is more of a short-term goal, no slam on fishing, of course.
