Its your decision where you live.

There are several counties here in Florida that are much larger than NJ...just sayin'.

Yeah, our choice of course. But it's also where the high paying pharmaceutical jobs are and family and great schools. We'll move when we retire, already talking about it. Need to save up a bit more and the kids need to get off to college first. Plus we have elderly parents nearby. You know, all the typical things families go through.

Florida is not on the list of places we are thinking of retiring to though.

Good...I'm really glad FL is off your radar. We're getting rid of the libs around here in droves!

The point that was clearly missed is that in a state as small as NJ is you could move to another state and still keep your job where it is.

With the tax savings you could fund a 529 and have the college paid for...but I digress. You stay where you are and keep feeding the Beast.

What door? The taxes on tobacco or not allowing the mailing of these things?

I can't stand those taxes and think they are a waste. They are the easiest to pass because they go after a 'minority' of people who don't have a big lobby. The attitude is we are all addicts who are just hurting ourselves and others. This includes all 'sin' taxes, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, and laws against drugs like pot.

We as individuals have every right to kill ourselves in any manner we want.

I agree that we should be able to consume whatever we want as long as it does not effect anyone else negatively.

We do know some people that commute from PA, but that's one helluva commute, and we determined it was not worth it. First, the schools in our town are much better than anywhere near the border in PA. And secondly, the time spent on the road takes away from time with the family. A sacrifice we're not willing to make. The kid's college educations are already paid for even if they pursue advanced degrees, so that's not a concern.

Sigh. Once again. The picture you, and others here, are painting of a liberal, and me, is not what it is in reality.

We can approve of the killing of bin Laden. There is also a very large percentage of us who are small l libertarian when it comes to personal freedoms like those being discussed here, but still think the government has a vital role in running the country properly since the government is us. I have always posted and given my opinion based on that perspective.

These things are not on a one dimensional scale left/right. It is more nuanced than that. There are right wingers who are authoritarian (anti libertarian) and strong on social issues of morality and also traditionally conservative. There are others who are anti-athoritarian (libertarian) and traditionally conservative.

lmao, all caps and everything. I don't like that law either. But you do know it's not just Democrats who support legislation like this, right? Laws like this have been proposed and are spreading all over the country. States are losing a lot of tax revenue to other states from sales over the internet. I used to buy cigarettes from Switzerland, but that was stopped years ago because no one was getting taxes from it. Same concept with the banning of internet poker, which was mostly heralded by the right and criticized by (gulp) Barney Frank. But go on your rant if it makes you feel better.

lmao. So because I may not agree with everything Obama does I should have no use for him or defend him when I think he's right? Ridiculous.

I never supported the Libya thing, won't find it. I don't support the health care law as it does not go far enough and is a huge payoff to the insurance companies. Single payer is the way to go. You will find that position here if you search my posts.

Bailouts, tough one. Depends on what you are talking about. It is difficult to support the privatization of profits and the socialization of losses. Bush bailed out Wall Street, Obama GM. We're told it saved the economy, who the f knows. GM is making a profit now and it saved a lot of manufacturing jobs, something this country need desperately.

But none of those things you mentioned impact personal liberty. I know the right argues that forcing a person to get insurance does, but you are forced to get car insurance if you drive, and I'm not sure how a state forcing you to buy something is less of your personal liberty than if the federal government does it. But it's also why I support single payer.

I don't support the administration's position on drug laws, the extension of the patriot act and other things that I criticized the Bush administration for. That hasn't changed at all. Overall, I do think Obama is better than anything or anyone the republicans have put forward.
