Par 3, about 135 yards, this past Saturday. I knew it was good after it left my club. Headed straight at the pin, leaving the only question of, "was it the right club?"

Ended up being the right club, but as you can see by the ball-mark, my aim was off ever so slightly. I wonder....if it went right into the cup, would it have stuck?

Thanks. It's tough to see how close you are to the pin when you're standing on the tee box. I mean, you always think you're close, then you drive up to find your ball sitting about 10-feet away, or more. Don't get me wrong, that's close....but it's usually a downer to see there's more meat on the bone than expected. This was one of those rare occasions where I've found myself pleasantly surprised, then completely bummed after seeing the ball-mark.

A guy I golf with - who happens to be a 3 handicap - had a friend who hit the ball off the tee, and the ball spun directly backwards between his legs, about 20-yards behind him. He was looking out at the fairway trying to find the ball, while his friends were on the ground laughing.

I hope you left that divot there for the next group(s) after you so they could be equally impressed. [sarcasm]

😂

You farked that hole up good. Now Carl Spackler's gonna have to go out there and put in a new one.

Yes, yes it would have stayed in. So you missed an ace by 1.6 inches. You were close, but you didn't get it. It would have been great if you did, but you didn't. You could have bragged about it for at least 7 and a half years, but now you can't, because you missed it. You can never get that moment back. (I'm trying to think of these to avenge the posting denial of my last twofer tuesday), uh, let's see, coitus interuptus. You will be dissappointed about it for the rest of your life. You are less of a man than you could have been. And, of course, "Close but no cigar".

...and to answer your question, yes, it most likely would have bounced out. It happens to me all the time. After the first dozen or so times, you learn not to get upset about it.

daveincincy - I fixed the ball-mark, but since it was part of the hole I could only push it in from three directions leaving a nice little slope in the cup, helping anyone that might be putting from the appropriate direction.

make the putt? I imagine you did since you left a channel to the hole - no doubt prior to the birdie putt

The putt was given to me. I went up with one arm leaning in to make it and it actually lipped out. But our scorekeeper gave me the birdie nonetheless. I am actually pretty good at putting, compared to other aspects of golf. In hindsight, I probably should have treated it like any other putt, but we were just playing in a friendly foursome.

🤦 So you MISSED the putt, maybe would have parred it (assuming you made the next putt), but someone still gave it to you??? Horry sheet! The only time I take a gimme is when I'm already shooting for bogies. But you gotta earn your eagles, birdies, and pars no matter how much it sucks to MISS it....like you did. 😂
