There's no taxation for Festivus poles!

I thought this new tax was to fund a board that did not exist prior. Are you saying the board has always existed?

HockeyDad wrote:

nope the board (which I would vote no and kill the program itself) is new and meant to drive things. the activities are not new to my understanding. it appears as if this has been an aimless suck hole and should be killed. instead we are putting in anothe layer of costs and off setting the costs with taxes!

bad idea. but not as advertised.

and I could be wrong...I often am. but to characterize this as a tax to somehow hurt the christmass industry is stoopid.

IE

the idea could be killed and painted stupid on reality rather than the sillyness of our kenyan muslim black king hating christmas.

Actually it looks like the board and the activities are new.

If the christmas tree industry cannot survive on its own too bad. Maybe if the didn't charge $75 for something I can buy a permit to get myself for $5 (plus I get to take beer and cigars and a propane heater with me) they would do better.

you may be right. I need to go re-read it. the 96 act may just be how to conduct the referendum.

ok so obama hates christmas again and the world goes back to normal LOL

you are right hd. I read it wrong. the 96 act is more global and being used to justify this.

The proponent, the Christmas Tree Checkoff Task Force is an
industry wide group of producers and importers that support this
proposed program. They have conducted meetings throughout the United
States with several State and multi-State Christmas tree organizations.
The proposed program is not intended to duplicate any State program.
The proponents have determined that they need a mechanism that would be
sustainable over time. A national Christmas tree research and promotion
program would accomplish this goal.

I am against it but it looks like they are trying to form a self sustaining (cough) industry group. the govt needs to stay out of this.

but it isn't an anti christmas tree thing. quite the opposite.

No, no....Obama likes Christmas trees and now he is going to advertise for them through a new government board which creates new government jobs!

We got job creation and a relaxation in the war on Christmas. Until a lawsuit is filed declaring this unconstitutional.

They'll get really little trees. The 1%ers get the huge trees. The 15 cent tax will apply equally to the little and huge trees thus causing an outcry that it is a regressive tax. Ultimately, someone will poop in a Christmas tree store.

Maybe they'll get leftover Katrina debit cards to buy a tree with. Could put Obamas picture on it in a santa outfit!
