I forget, did all our familys set foot here in america or were the indians here first? So, all our familys came in search of a better place, why not pass the buck?

Don't matter how you try to slice or dice it...
illegal=illegal? Or do it depend on your definition of I ?

jj, abortion is legal. legal=legal. So if being legal or illegal is the final word, then why do conservatives get so worked up about it?

rayder, excellent points.

Rayder, very good point of view! I am a conservative (oh really!!) and my view on the subject is to tighten the borders until this terrorist situation is worked out and over with!

Then return to the principals this country was founded on and start allowing legal immigrants to enter the country. My grandparents were Irish and Syrian (kinda would make me a good candidate to be searched closely by airline security, except I do not look like I am middle eastern) and they worked to build this country and damn well would like to see it protected from those who want to do us harm. These are not normal times and we are up against people who do not care what race, color or creed "Americans" are that they want to kill! Age does not matter to these wierd freaks and they will do what they can to destroy America and its allies!

WE GOTTA BE TOUGH!

I think ALL immigration should be stopped until the economy picks up. Then it should work like a spigot open when WE need workers closed when we don't. The military ought to be on the borders with live ammo, I think this would stop the illegals. As for the statement above about the statue of liberty, Nowhere on it does it mention welfare or free ride.

Very well spoken. Its nice to see a debate with our countries interest the focal point.

Mexico's President, Vincete Fox has urged GW to relax border patrol to the point on NO border patrol.
He wants his citizens to come and go as they please.
Of course he does. With the imigrants coming here, there would be less of a population for him to worry about so his popularity goes up.

There was a group of 19 or so ILLEGALS attempting to cross our border several months ago. They died in the attempt from the extreme heat. Now their families are SUING the U.S. Government for ~$30M, claiming it was OUR fault they died. They have gone so far as to DEMAND that we install watering stations at various points so the will not dehydrate in the summer heat.

Mr. Fox & Co. issues to anybody considering attempting to cross the border a Care Package for their journey.
The kit includes, condoms and hypodermic needles.

My grandparents came over on "the boat" LEGALLY.
They worked extremely hard to make it and I am living proof of that.

Our imigration laws are a joke these days. What there are of them are not enforced. Remember 9-11-01

These days when I go to the ATM, it is in Spanish and English. WHY?!?!?!
I'll tell you and you may not like it, but I dont care.
It is in Spanish because most imigrants legal or not are too lazy to learn English. Or maybe too stupid.

There is a multitude of different races and languages spoken here and thats great, but why then is it only for the Latino's we cater to? Shouldn't we have ATM's and all other signage in every spoken language?

In order to vote you must be a U.S. Citizen. In order to become a U.S. Citizen you must read, write and speak ENGLISH. Why then when there is ceremony swearing in Hispanics to become U.S. Citizens it is done in Spanish and not English? Why is the Hispanic community demanding and getting voting ballots printed in Spanish?

My grandparents HAD to learn English in order to get by. Why are we making is so easy for ONE ethnic group?

I have worked with or met people from about 20 different countries. All but ONE group learn English at a very early age. It is almost a mandate these days.

There is a border town in south Texas that its residents are 100% Mexican. Thats great, but the city has refused to allow English to be spoken or signage put up. It must all be in Spanish.
Welcome to America? Hmmmmmm

Grant it there are many many hard working Legals and Non-Legals, but ya know... the Non-Leagals have got to go. Its the law.
No more amnisty granted becase they have been here for 5 years and did not get any speeding tickets in that time.

There was a story in Dallas where a 18 Wheeler tried to smuggle in illegals this past summer. Many of them died because of the heat being locked up in the trailer. Its a sad story, but the Dallas news made those that lived and died to be heros and worked to get them to stay here legally since they had been through so much. Oh Boo Hoo, they knew the risks when the climbed into the truck.

We also have problems with pregnant women crossing the border when they are due to give birth. As soon as they have a baby at taxpayer's expense because they do not have insurance, the new bambino is now a U.S. Citizen and has all of the rights and privaleges as do the rest of us. Now the mother nor the baby can not be deported. They live here legally collecting unemployment and welfare. Meanwhile 100's of thousands of hard working Americans that are out of work because of the economy can't get squat becuse we have to fund everything else for people that have never put a dime into the kitty.

Schools in Texas and I'd imagine other states as well are required to teach classes in Spanish because the poor children do not speak English very well.
Too damn bad. Let them learn. Dont waste my school tax dollars on programs that do not benefit 100% of the schools population.

Charity begins at home and home to most is from sea to shinning sea.

We need to stop the bleeding. Our pockets and tollerance only goes so far.

RDC - you said what I believe many Americans believe but are afraid of being called racist , bigots or
some such term because they're for America first. This country is becoming a mosaic instead of a melting pot. Can what happened in the Balkans be in our future?
plabonte

Actually America was never really a melting pot. Its more of a beef stew. With one chunck here and there. (thus places like little China, little Italy, little Mexico, little etc.)

When all you bigots meet your maker and he asks you the question,"How did you treat your fellow man",what will your answer be? I know what mine will be. X

I'm sorry you have to resort to name calling. That's usually the reply of someone who can not or will
not believe the others have a different opinion.

One entry found for bigot.

Main Entry: big·ot
Pronunciation: 'bi-g&t
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle French, hypocrite, bigot
Date: 1661
: a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices
- big·ot·ed /-g&-t&d/ adjective
- big·ot·ed·ly adverb

Obviously you missed my point at least.
I am not a bigot. I do not dislike people from other races, religions, ethnicity, skin color or choose one of you own.

Nor am I a bleading heart liberal that gives to everyone in hopes that I'll get their vote.

In your question, does that mean you think I'll burn in hell because I want imigration laws enforced?
Yes it is mans law and not GODs law but there are a lot of other laws on the books put their by man.

Does you question also mean that when an illegal alien goes for their judgement day that they will be welcomed with open arms because they tried to better themselves or will the be sent to hell for breaking the law, stealing and taking the food away from the mouth of a starving American?

Excuse me,but I did not call anybody a bigot. I merely made a general statement, but if the shoe fits,or if it doesn't,well you know the rest. X

X, you will burn for the way you have treated me. Just as you have caused me to burn ---some damn fine cigars, that is.

Fun aside, the 'poem' is offensive in a public form, and no one posting here is much more conservative (fiscally anyway) than I am. I agree that we have an illegal alien problem in this country, but there are plenty of legal citizens of every race and religion in this country, including Mexican (guessing that "chebby" is an attempt at a Mexican dialect), and they are entitled to respect.

Once again the Liberals miss the point.
I hear name-calling (bigot) and the "holier than thou" attitudes, but it's all just filth spewing from their keyboard.
The major points on this thread attack illegals. Yet all the Liberals hear is "Latino". What will it take to make them see the issue?
We should make a deal: For every Illegal Immigrant that crosses our border, one Bleeding Heart Liberal will leave. I'd rather hear the festive singing of a thousand illegal immigrants than the nausiating drone of one Liberal...

Have you ever been to Mexico? Have you ever been on a cruise to the Carribean and seen the desperate poverty of the former slaves as they sit in their cardboard shacks while we drive by in the cruise-line bus sipping our Strawberry Daquiris? If I lived in those places, you can bet your ass I would be trying to get here as fast as humanly possible. Do the illegals from Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua take your job? Who would pick lettuce if they weren't here? It is our government's stupidity that allows Welfare and Medicaid to be abused by these folks. But again, if I were them, and I lived in a #&*@ hole, I would be swimming the Gulf of Mexico to get here.
plabonte

You bring up a good point rmallyon. To that I would like to answer that you don't have to look to Mexico to find poverty. It is right here in America. How can he help our neighbors if we can't help ourselves?
