+1... and in exactly that order! However, I have to say that the Sam Adams Black Lager is pretty darn decent, too.

If you like a big malty taste try some of the Scottish ales.....My favorite is Belhaven.Full malty/nutty flavor.............................Those of you that are into IPA's or a HOP head in general you will NOT like this.

I tried an Anchor Steam a week ago, since I had read so much about it. Had several clone recipes and wanted to try it first.

I drank two sips, and handed it off to my wife. She said it was okay, so I asked if she wanted five gallons of it.

"No." she said, very quickly and decisively.

I'll look for that one Ron. I really like Dirty **** by Founders. It is a Scottish ale.

Belhaven=Scottish Ale....Love this stuff

Boddingtons=British pale golden ale.....brewed by Inbey UK Limited,Luton England.I have one occasionally but much better swill is to be had from this region of the world.

I was cleaning out my beer fridge for my wife to store some holiday crap........anyway I found one lone bottle of Shiner 101(last years limited release in a Czech Style Pilsner).I had to have it right then...........very good pilsner and those are far and few between IMHO.

Maybe I need the least hoppy ale there is, and give that a shot.

Have you tried Newcastle? What about the Oktoberfests from Paulaner or Spaten? Smithwick's Irish Ale?

No preference for one or the other for me. Just so long as it's a good beer. I have Sudwerk, Serra Nevada, Russian River, Lagunitas, Anderson Valley Brewing, just to name a few, all right in my backyard, although only Sudwerk specializes in lagers, the others produce primarily only ales. It's not hard to find great fresh beer here...

Unibroue has some wonderful ales you might want to try before giving up on Ales totally.

Tres Pistoles, La Fin Du Monde, Ephemere, Terrible, and Blonde de Chambly are all magnificent ales that go down real easy.
