Wow that's really cool! How long does it take from Seed to usable, smokable, tobacco? You have to cure it and age it etc right?

seeds start feb/march, grow in hothouse 'til april/may. then "harden off" slowly (get them used to the sun) unless shade grown. Grows all summer to fall. To keep leaves producing flowers have to be broken off/topped, some can be left for seed stock. Then the work begins. You should google some stuff about cutting/aging/curing tobacco, pretty cool, lots of work to get that little cigar to yo' lips.

Doubt I will try to ferment, I once grew mainly to send and give to some Tribal Elders.

Now I think I will try to dry and preserve some and send along with trades, etc. Won't get much from 8 plants in a dry year like this, but if'n the worms don't get bad (I don't like to use pesticides).

I should have some thing to play with.

Broke one off (smaller than my hand) moving that soaker hose around them the other day and brought it in to start drying.

Not much nic in it now, though. Gets much stronger during the pre-flower to flowering stage, just as any other plant does, hehe.

Thanks, I thought everyone would get a kick out of this, I will update as it grows.

Still plotting/planning on what to do with the stuff. One is an heirloom variety, but not sure if I want to bother with letting one seed out, either way, soon I will pull the dirt to 'em.

Give 'em a dose of compost, and watch 'em grow,

Might look into home brewing a batch, never know, be easy to "flue cure". I've got an electric smoker, but we don't need cigarette material.
