a couple of quick additions to this thread ...

one, the Raiders USED to sell out when the Oakland Colliseum had far fewer seats than it has now ... that huge "Mount Davis" was built to help lure Al back to the Bay Area on the assumption there was an endless number of willing buyers for the seats ...

two, the biggest problem for season ticket AND single game ticket holders at the Raider games are the PSLs ... far too many of the people who were formerly the mainstays of the Raider crowd have been priced right out of the game ...

three, the PERCEIVED degree of hooliganism and rowdyism at Raider games ... before the move to LA, fans at the colliseum did not dress and behave in the extreme manner that has become the stereotype of Raider fans today ... the ACTUAL problem is not as great as one might assume, given the image that is being portrayed.

Finally, Denver is NOT a stuck-up rich area ... although I've lived in the Bay Area for more than 30 years, I'm a child of the Rockies and go back to the high country often ... were it not for the reality of having to shovel snow in the winter, Denver would be at the top of my list of places I'd consider moving to if I were to decide to move from where I am.

I admit I have never been to Denver. I had a roomate who was from aspen and told me what things are like there from his perspective. I dont think some of you realize that Raiders tix are the most expensive in the league. Next steve is right about MountDavis those seats are terrible. Next you couldnt have ever been to Oakland Collisium and seen the poor nieghborhood you pass through to get there. Im sure its not as nice as Denver. Thats why murder and violent crime is common in Oakland. This isnt Raider Fans Fault. You dont have to go to the game to be a Loyal Raider Fan. Do you think that a poor person who watches & roots for the Raiders at home on TV or the radio if thats all he can afford makes him any less loyal To the Raider Nation? I dont think so. Mag

Mile High is located off of Federal Blvd. Every Cinco de Mayo for the last 20 years there have been killings along this street, that and having worked in this area I would hardly call it paradise, much less safe! And can you really say Candlestick is in a good area? I've been there twice this year and "nice" didn't come to mind at all except for when the Broncos won!

If the prices are so high and they're not selling out, why not fight the PSL's or try and make something work, it's just unbelievable for me to have the games blocked out in your home city!

As far as Aspen here's my opinion... Aspen is 100 plus miles away from Denver, it's one of the most expensive and exclusive resort towns in the world, Denver and Aspen have little in common! I admit that Denver has it's snobs, and it has it's rich kids, but it also has poor people, middle class people and the rest, but I've never worried about my safety at a football game!

cwilhelmi, I think your points are valid. But I think some of mine are too. So lets agree to disagree. But lets also be friends. I think we both want the same thing in the end and that is Peace in the sport world with good competition. Thanks for your responces. Mag(Mikes my real name)

Mike,
Agreed, I just get fired up when it comes to the rivalry, and the fact that I can't go to the Den v Oak game in December while wearing Bronco gear, at least not without fearing for my life. Hopefully, it will be a sell out so I can watch it on TV...

jamesconnors, About $60 for the cheap ones. They have all these extra charges you must pay. I think the ticket says $49. You really dont want to be on "Mount Davis" its too high. You feel like The colesium should have been called "Mile High". Mag

Maggie,
I hate when "fans" use the ticket price to explain empty seats. $60? That's what Bruins tickets go for and there are 40 home games a year.
And I'm sorry to hear that all Raider fans are too poor to go. "Sports" in Oakland is an oxymoron. Cripes, they couldn't sell out a freaking playoff game for the A's!
And when will you stop blaming the refs for last years snow bowl Ass-Kicking?
Regardless of your opinion of the now infamous "tuck rule", were the refs on defense when the Patriots continued down the field and kicked the game-tying field goal? Did the refs bend over in OT like the Raiders defense? Did the refs call a timeout so the Patriots could clear the snow and ice away for Vintieri's game winner?
EVERY team that lost to the Pats last year cried about something. The Steelers claimed they lost due to Special Teams (like that somehow makes it alright).
The Rams cried that they should have run the ball more and got Marshall Faulk more involved.
There's always a REASON. But the Patriots won when it counted.
The Raiders and their KISS Concert fans don't stand a chance when it counts.
Meanwhile, I've got my season ticket (9 years now) for the WORLD CHAMPION New England Patriots. Spiked shoulder pads not required...

jjohnson28, There is no chip. Ive answered every post that I think has merit. My posts in general are not rude like some others. This thread has been active pretty long and there has even been another whole week of games played. I havent seen any one talk about thier teams. Maybe thats because The Raiders may not win every game but are so exciting & intriguing, that you guys cant help but reply to the posts. No other team could have made such a frenzy. The Raiders are my team and I am proud to be a Raider fan. Lets see if ANY other team can get you guys fired up. I dont think so. Win or lose Raiders are the team every one will talk about. Im sorry that some of you got a little upset. That wasnt my original intention but after a few rips that was when My attitude changed a little. At least I try to give my position without ripping a person personally. Too bad some of you arent capable of that. Mag

My turn, Been to Raider stadium and many others. It is very nice on the inside as far as the set up. Candlestick park is across the street from a trailer park and most cities put stadiums in the poor part of town because the wealty do not want the traffic and noise.

The Raiders tend to choke quite often. They just came out of the last one. If I lived in the area I would have to go with the Niners cause they can change coaches, players, etc and still stay at the top. Probably a better reason for lack of ticket sales.

The Cowboys sell out their stadium and the visitors stadiums.

With the low scoring games this year it is too difficult to pick with team will score more than 10 points much less win.

Why is it that all any one wants to talk about is attendance, fan dress, the class of fans and just about everything but football itself. Why dont any of you so called sport fans talk about your offence or defence or how you plan to stop The Raiders . Im tired of defending these other meaningless issues. If anyone wants to talk FOOTBALL Im game. But its easy to rip on the Raiders when you really dont live in the bay area and just see or read highlites on the news. I know that some of you do live out here and your responces I do take more to heart. This will be MY last post on this thread unless you have a FOOTBALL comment that I consider valid. No hard feelings on My part to any of you. I hope there arent any towards Me. Just trying to have alittle fun with you guys. Mag

Heres a breakdown of the most expensive average ticket prices from a sports paper and web site:
Most expensive

Team Average price
Washington $81.89
Denver 77.41
Jacksonville 62.85
Pittsburgh 62.03
Tennessee 60.94

My seats on the first deck off to the side of the end zone. Face value $47. With annual maintenance fees for my PSL it comes out to about $50 per seat. I was offerred an upgrade to the 40 yd line and the price went up about $5 per seat. $52. The most expensive is the plaza, club and loge club seating. Those give you access to the huge lounge and bar area. I like my field level seats. Never get rained on. Close to the action.

As for rowdy fans, I don't see any more there than I have seen at any other stadium.

Personally I would consider it absolutely stupid to wear opposing team clothes to a game. There is always some a-hole to make a scene over it. The only exception is SF/Oakland baseball or football. It is still the Bay Area and fans really don't mistreat each other overall. More of a friendly rivalry. I have worn Oakland stuff to SF games many times and saw a lot of Niner/Giants fans in Oakland. Not much stupidity.

I went to games in Pittsburg, Miami, SF, Arizona, and LA. I went wearing neutral clothing and quietly rooted my team on. The people around me knew who I was rooting for, but I didn't make a deal about it.

As for Candlestick Park. It is a huge piece of crap. I will never go to another game there. In the winter, more than half the parking lot is under water or mud. Two lane road in, two lane road out. Colder than any other place in the Bay Area. They need a new stadium real bad in SF. I have been to about 4-5 niner games there and about 50 Giants games. No more.

Paying for a license to buy season tickets is ridiculous, but Al Davis started something that is beginning to pop up everywhere. PSL's.

I hope when I renew in a couple years, they won't charge me another $1000 per seat for the right to buy tickets. I will still pony up the bucks and do it anyway, but I would prefer not to. It's hard to be a loyal fan.

Rayder if you dont have a PSL and go to buy that same ticket you have Its about $60 per seat. That isnt the average that is the cheapest. Ive never had a PSL for the season tix. Wife wouldnt go for it. Now THIS IS MY LAST NON FOOTBALL GAME RESPONCE. Mag

Mag,
I did as you asked. I "brought it on".
Don't get so riled up.
If Raider "fans" were all about football, as you claim to be, then why do they insist on making every home game a queer S&M contest?
And there hasn't been an additional week of football since your post. The Pats/Raiders game was last weekend.
Truth be told, the Patriots were man-handled on both sides of the line. But that doesn't make for interesting banter.
Last season, the Patriots hosted the Rams at home and lost. But come February, WHEN IT COUNTED MOST, the Patriots won. I bet the Rams victory in November is hollow. As will this one be for you Raider "fans" should we meet in the Playoffs.
Besides, this post wasn't about football (as you claim). IT was about revenge. You said it yourself.
Now stop living in the past and realize that the Patriots team you played last weekend had 3 road games and 3,000 miles logged prior to kickoff.
You come to MY crib and you know the results...
