Yeah, but the car companies and banks paid it back with interest.

Say – what do you think a person’s ‘fair share’ of the debt should be?

A. GM still owes money against the debt.
B. The banks? When the bank bailout is used as a negative, the liberals say it GWB who initiated it. When they claim it's being paid back with interest, they give credit to Obama. So which is it today?

As for fair share, are you looking for a dollar value or a percentage?
And is it really fair to ask a question that you probably don't even have an answer for yourself?

This is a political discussion – Please don’t confuse the issues with facts whether real or imaginary.

My sense of fair would be that Americans pay in accordance with their income. And that interest and holding be taxed at the same rate as labor income.

Now take note how the cunning and crafty Le HockeyDad raises the issue but does not weigh in. He is tricky that one – be warned!

It amazes me how TRUTH is spun to make something sound better. When GM FULLY reimburses the American people ALL the $$$ it was doled, then it can say it has paid back the American People.

Fair share?

I think we need a percentage system based on who the taxpayer voted for. If you voted for a big spender then buckle up buttercup you're flipping the bill.

Ummm... not to start a "what percentage of our budget goes to x vs y" discussion, but wouldn't that system essentially end up with individuals supporting defense spending/war efforts (usually a more republican group) paying a much higher percentage?

Maybe a politician who will make spending a slave to taxes, instead of taxes a slave to spending? Crazy deficit talk, I know. But they eased you into it. You got comfortable with deficits in the millions. Then billions. The trillions. Next up: Kabooblians.
