The liberals DID paint the conservatives as anti-women. It was a major topic of discussion during the debate. Hell, as governor, Romney hired more women than any other governor at that time. Yet he was taken to task during the debates and he blundered his way into the now famous "binders of women" comment.

Her employer-paid insurance refuse and cited religion as the reason.
Fluke took it to the streets and the media. It instantly became a war on woman, with the conservatives trying to "deny access" to contraception.

This is your view of the timeline? I just looked it up. Here's the actual series of events:
1 - The United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform scheduled a hearing in Feb titled "Lines Crossed: Separation of Church and State. Has the Obama Administration Trampled on Freedom of Religion and Freedom of Conscience?" Sounds pretty non-partisan and innocuous, right?
2 - The Dems tried to get Fluke on the list as a speaker, ostensibly to provide an example of someone who is in a religious institution and would like them to provide birth control. This isn't a ridiculous idea, usually you'd like to hear the voice of whoever you're going to impact with a decision. I'm sure Fluke was politically active before, but this is when she first hit the spotlight.
3 - The House Committee said she didn't have enough credentials to speak (I'm not 100% sure what credentials someone would need regarding this.... but that was their claim). This was the hilarious photo-op of a bunch of old white guys telling a woman she doesn't have the credentials to discuss female birth control insurance rules.
4 - The Dems then made their own special meeting (Feb 16) where they had her speak. This was purely a political move, but a well played one painting the republicans as a bunch of old white guys who don't want to hear a woman's voice regarding these issues.
5 - Limbaugh then decided to start calling her a slut and a prostitute. Idiots started mimicing him.
6 - Profit!
