US Lawmakers Express “Concern” Over Jay-Z, Beyonce Cuba Trip

Two United States lawmakers are expressing “concern” over a trip to Cuba this week by music stars Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles-Carter.

The two reportedly traveled to Cuba to mark their fifth wedding anniversary.

Florida Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart have written a letter to Adam Szubin, director of the United States’ Office of Foreign Assets Control, seeking information on the type of licence the pair of stars received for their travel to Cuba.

US citizens are permitted to travel to Cuba only under certain licences, such as people-to-people travel or educational endeavours.

“We would like to respectfully request, within all applicable rules and guidelines, information regarding the type of licence that Beyoncé and Jay-Z received, for what purpose, and who approved such travel,” the lawmakers wrote.

“If these individuals were given people-to-people licenses, we would like to bring to your attention the Cuba Travel Advisory issued by OFAC on July 25, 2011 which states, ‘OFAC only licenses People-to-People Groups that certify that all participants will have a full-time schedule of educational exchange activities that will result in meaningful interaction between the travelers and individuals in Cuba,’” they wrote.

Both Members of Congress have been longtime critics of Cuba’s government.

The two said that, because Cuba’s tourism industry is “wholly state-owned,” “US dollars spent on Cuban tourism directly fund the machinery of oppression that brutally represses the Cuban people.”

Obviously then, the reason for Beyonce making the trip is to educate the Cubans on the boo-tay.

Find it ironic that one week Jay-Z is hiring well-known rollers for his private roll during a private party, and the next he is in Cuba shown smoking cigars with his entourage.

The big "O" probably gave them a pass in exchange for a hefty donation. We all know the "O" needs the money after giving up 5% of his pay while all other Fed employees are taking a 20% cut.

Unfortunately any fine these POS may get will just be small change, and they'll rub our nose in it through the media.

WGAF comes to mind. Rich people don't have the same rules we do, never have, never will. Now we'll pay millions for a senate inquiry into jay z and B's vacations? Again, WGAF.

Ya, autographed. I like to hang out at the 40/40 club too.
How bout a inquiry into government as a framework for the good of the people, not an all encompassing, smothering, behemoth. Celebs who have to do PSA's instead of jail time. $40,000 government hammers, and toilet seats. Stuff like that, just sayin.

Thousands of years of history, and numerous civilizations come and gone have shown that this will NEVER happen.

The minute you make something that is good for pretty much everyone, you'll get a swarm of parasites that will feed off of it, all the while holding themselves up as a paragon of virture because they "serve" the people.

So what you get is the smothering behemoth.

And people like Jay Z and Beyonce with enough money and star power to exempt themselves from the clutches of the behmoth.

(I would also place Hockeydad in that category, as he is under the Cone of Protection.)

you should post some pics...👍

but ya, I agree there are more pressing issues we should deal with... timing is interesting tho.. I thin they were at the whitehouse like a month ago so there's prolly some sort of conspiracy with Obama telling them it's ok and stuff...
I'm sure there are Americans going into Cuba everyday but they either have the papers or stay out of the spotlight... if they did something wrong I say knock'em of their horses for awhile... there was a right way.... 😟

Beyonce, Jay Z Trip to Cuba 'Fully Licensed' by Treasury Department

The Treasury Department "fully licensed" Beyonce and Jay Z's trip to Cuba, according to Reuters.

"American pop star Beyonce and rapper husband Jay Z visited Havana last week on a cultural trip that was fully licensed by the United States Treasury Department, according to a source familiar with the trip," Reuters reports.

"Beyonce and Jay Z celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary in the Cuban capital, where big crowds greeted them as they strolled hand in hand through the city and posed for pictures with admiring Cubans.

"The longstanding U.S. trade embargo against Cuba prevents most Americans from traveling to the island without a license granted by the U.S. government, though President Barack Obama's administration has eased restrictions on travel to Cuba for academic, religious or cultural programs."

The Treasury Department is led by Secretary Jack Lew, President Obama's former chief of staff.

At today's White House press briefing, spokesman Jay Carney said it was a Treasury Dept. decision
