Ok, an interesting dilemma.

So, I'm going to Costco, which is in a shopping complex. In this shopping complex there is a 4-way stop. While sitting at that 4-way stop, there is a man standing on the corner with a sign looking for a handout. Sitting behind him were a woman and two kids. I browsed the sign, noticed it said the he had a family, and so I assumes that the two kids and the woman behind him were his wife and children.

Likewise, the wife pulled out her breast and started feeding her one child (an infant) on the corner.

They did not appear to be natural-born citizens of the US. My thoughts were that they were foreign nationals. This is based strictly on their dress.

A pickup came along next to them, and after some conversation, money was handed to the guy with the sign. So it appears that the guy was accepting money.

So the question is: what would you do?

Do you offer them money?

Do you ignore them?

Do you offer them help to find work?

What would you do?

LOL- It sounds a bit contrived & possibly rehearsed in order to evoke sympathy but I would have probably still given them a dollar or two.
I believe good acts are rewarded.

Having said that, I don't like to see folks pile out of vans w/signs ready to panhandle in an almost confrontational style at stoplights. I don't succumb to that.
I remember giving a Perla Negra (Black Pearl) to an overcaffeinated young mendicant who gave me a puzzled look when I suggested he not smoke it while soliciting.

I would tell them the same thing I tell Brewha.....get a job and pick yourself up by your bootstraps and maybe one day you can participate in the Federal Reserve-induced stock market rally/bubble.

This is generally a tough call, myself, I go with my gut and let that be my gauge. When you see a panhandler gaming on his iPhone while holding the sign, well, probably not, on the other hand if it looks like a brother or sister in true need, I don't mind giving a few bucks. I remember giving what appeared to be a not so well off vet $10 and a pack of smokes - his eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas morning. To each his own.........

I step over a half a dozen homeless people in the two blocks I have to walk to my car every morning. They smell, are inarticulate, probably carry some disease or another and are generally in my way. A couple seem to have dogs. I feel bad for the dogs. That's about it.

Some day when I have time I'll tell you all about the first night I parked a car on the street here. Useless homeless crack-heads here couldn't even manage to successfully break into it, just managed to damage it. Now I have to pay more a month to park it than some people pay in rent.

After checking out, 200-500. And gassing up, 100. I feel like I should join the guy.

A lot of the crackheads on the street here can't even speak properly. It's like they lost all ability to use a consonant. If I'm bored one day I'm thinking of waving a 20$ bill in front of them and tell them they can have it if they can properly pronounce "Eleven benevolent elephants". I guarantee they'll fail.

Meth affects speech. Not crack, unless they're just talking fast.
