You forget that we are for more "enlightened" nowadays than our Founding Fathers, who were a bunch of Bible-thumping, genocidal maniacs bent on reaping their fortunes on the backs of the common people in the guise of "industry."
We have eliminated the ills of humanity including racism, sexism, murder, theft, rape, and intoxication. There is nothing we can learn from people like Madison. We've grown so much since then.
