Another case of zero tolerance = zero thinking.

Irving police: no charges against Ahmed Mohamed

A student built an electronic clock and get arrested for having a hoax bomb. The police questioned him without his parents and didn't allow him to call them before being questioned.

Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=122&v=3mW4w0Y1OXE

He kept the clock inside his school bag in English class, but the teacher complained when the alarm beeped in the middle of a lesson. Ahmed brought his invention up to show her afterward.

“She was like, it looks like a bomb,” he said.

“I told her, ‘It doesn’t look like a bomb to me.’”

The teacher kept the clock. When the principal and a police officer pulled Ahmed out of sixth period, he suspected he wouldn’t get it back.

They led Ahmed into a room where four other police officers waited. He said an officer he’d never seen before leaned back in his chair and remarked: “Yup. That’s who I thought it was.”

Amateur profiling is worse than nothing.

On the other hand, let my buddies run his DNA and see if some relatives are "hot" and then there might be cause. Got an Intel friend with a super-high clearance but the same name as an infamous IRA leader. He's had a few TSA encounters that didn't go well.

of course it was just a clock THIS time......the kid's just priming the pump, testing the waters, ....with a name like that, you just know that someday he's going to try to kill Americans. How come he isn't in jail yet? What're they gonna do - wait until he breaks the law or blows up half of Dallas before they lock him up?

"I locked it up with a cable so it wouldn't look suspicious"

Kid's smart enough to make a fn clock, but not smart enough to make sure it doesn't alarm during English class.....lock him up now, I say

This just in: Obama tweeted an invite to the kid to show his "clock" at the White House.

My crystal ball tells me that Fox will see this a proof that he's a mooslum terrorist......

Irving ISDs letter is pathetic, and even though the picture is only about 2 inches square, the "Student Resources Officer", likely an off-duty or limited duty cop, should have easily seen it was a simple project by a kid.

As one of the former EOD techs on here, I'd be laughing if the Irvine school admins weren't making such a mess of this. Principal and the SRO need to go at a minimum.

So, a moslem kid built a clock in a metal briefcase that beeped every so often.

And a junior high school teacher didn't know that a metal briefcase filled with wires was a . . . "clock".

Reminds me of the 2007 Boston Aqua Teen Hunger Force art project that panicked the city.

Had almost forgotten that one. Wasn't there something similar in Atlanta about a year ago that shut down the major cross-city highway? Either Georgia DoT or Georgia Tech put out a camera or sensor box?

When we started suspending kids because they chewed their pop tart into the shape of a gun, or played cops and robbers using their index finger and thumb as a pistol, is when we went too far.

Granted I don't think this kid bringing this clock into school with him was a great ideal in this day and age, I think the school and school boards have gone way over board with this Zero Tolerance BS.

Now granted I went to high school over 30 years ago, but as a kid we always had a pocket knife. Even in elementary school you usually carried a small pocket knife. And you know what the funny thing is, no one ever stabbed anyone.

Now kids can't even bring aspirin to school. Get caught with aspirin and you get suspended for 3 days. Really.

When did we become this nation that caved in to this pansy ass crap.

local town by the sea has a drug trafficking problem. the dealers leave boxes with wires exposed, the police force has to respond, the drugs move through town smoothly.
