There's something about all that exposed fiberglass above that makes the picture much less " thirst teasing " although the fly strip helps negate the fiberglass. 🌫

L-R Hefeweisen, Belgian Quad, Cascade IPA, Barleywine, Vanilla Porter, Russian Imperial Stout.

Kegged up the IPA, Barleywine and RIS last night. Once carbed the latter two will get bottled, IPA on tap.

What temp do you ferment at? I need a fridge or ice bath for mine.

Basement's 55-65 year round. Pretty much just pitch my yeast around 62 and let it run. In the warmer months I'll throw a wet t shirt over the carboy and leave a fan running over it. In the winter sometimes I need a heater to get things going.

So, to answer the question, no temp control.

Nice having a basement and those temps..........

It is. No need for fermentation temperature control and nearly perfect cellaring conditions. I have a small room dug out under the attached garage where the well and water treatment equipment resides. As long as the door stays closed, the room stays 60F.

Guy I know down here ferments at 90F with wild yeast. Pretty interesting saisons and farm house ales.

And while you're at it, cover that fiberglass insulation up. Fiberglass and beer works only if you're from Remulak.

Fruit fly population explodes when you've got this much active fermentation.

They're gone now. I throw up a couple when brewing several batches. One time I saw a fruit fly in an airlock, so I bought a case of fly paper. Get 5-6 flies every time I brew, haven't had another in an airlock since.

I used to brew my own beer after college. It was a lot of fun. Makes your whole house smell like mary jane (for those that don't know HOPs are a relative of marijuana) when your brewing it.

I'll assume with a set up like that you buy all the ingredients separate prior to boiling. At least I hope your not using "kits". I never liked them I always enjoyed building recipes. I have a good recipe for a Oktoberfest Lager I made. When I'm home ill have to find it and send it to you if you would like.

Anyway, looks good man!

Apparently the wife is looking at a home brew kit for me for Christmas. Trying to actually talk her out of it. Used to live down the street from a brew pub and can remember the smell. While I don't mind it, the apartment is small. Will be getting into it once we move.

Was a nice starter kit too. Came with the carboy, and the hoses, and some yeast, hops and barley.

You've heard of the German purity law of 1600's........only one rat per vat.

Never caught that smell, although each hop variety has their own unique aroma.
Are you sure you weren't throwing your stash into the wort? LOL

You never smelled marijuana from either whole hops or pellet form? Its rather distinct. Google hops and marijuana, you will find they are in the same "family" and they "taste and smell" similar. I can not verify the first one. But, I do know they smell similar.

Weird you dont get that though. Dan, do you get it when your brewing?
