... if the Academy is white only maybe they should say so.

There is a long history of black actors, directors, etc. who have been nominated and won awards at these silly events.
For Spike Lee and Mrs. Will Smith to protest over this shows nothing more than how shallow they are.

Take it a step further, I wonder what the ratio is of Jewish award winners vs Non-Jewish award winners.

I think the blacks are picking the wrong fight.

After all, Jews pretty much own Hollywood.

If Spike Lee wants to win another academy award, he might want consider changing his name to Goldlee, or Leestein.

Just a thought.

Spike lee blows.
John singleton makes him and his movies look like what they are, trash. The only thing worse than spike lee movies is his acting.

What happened to, "Until the colour of a man's skin, Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes" and "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."?

I thought we were supposed to be colorblind. 🌫

Yep, spike lee's movies are chit. I can agree with that, I think I've only saw a couple of them, both were bad.

Might be a cultural thing though, maybe I just "didn't get it", but I think it's more likely the acting was trash...

Been a while, you only have to see 1 or 2 chitty movies from someone before you decide to not watch any more.

Tail, Tony's argument is sound.
Ignore the argument of whether the Oscars is racist or not... Cacmans argument against it is that a BET (black entertainment television) award show doesn't nominate enough whites. His argument literally presupposes that the Oscars is equivalent to BET, but white... Which makes Tony's comment the logical follow up question.

In the context it makes sense and is kind of amusing

Yes Victor, some people have no sense of humor, particularly when it comes to racial equality, gender equality and religion.

Funny that the black community is the only one screaming racism. The same community that has their own television network, their own colleges, their own awards shows, etc. etc. etc. The list of items segregated by the black community is A LOT larger than the white community they are always blaming racism on. Jada Pinkett & Spike Lee are two of the most racist celebrities in Hollywood - literally the pot calling the kettle black.

What's next, are they going to say not enough black actors/directors where nominated for the Golden Globes or the Tony. Those nominations usually run fairly similar to the Oscars. Are they also going to say they didn't get enough "People's Choice" awards?

Fuq them and the racism they bring to every god damn topic they can just to stay relevant on TV.

I guess the fact that they had to come up with their own awards because they were ignored escaped you.

Cacman,

This is unrelated, but on this site I used to run, a black dude got on there arguing that it's impossible for a black person to be racist because they are a minority all the while talking crap about white people.

This mentality is shared by many, I'm sure it's shared by Lee and Pinkett.

You can't argue with people who have dramatic egocentric views such as that because they simply refuse to hear what you are saying.

Tony,

It has gone beyond the point of racial equality... there's nobody stopping anybody from doing what they want to do, or achieving their goals through hard work and dedication.

What they are asking/protesting/rioting/looting for is racial inequality in their favor.

Janet Hubert – who played Aunt Vivian on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air – posted a video response to Will Smith’s wife, who announced that she will not be attending the Oscars due to the lack of diversity among the nominees. “First of all, Miss Thing, does your man not have a mouth of his own with which to speak?” Hubert declared. “The second thing, girlfriend, there’s a lot of sh** going on in the world that you all don’t seem to recognize. People are dying. Our boys are being shot left and right. People are starving. People are trying to pay bills. And you’re talking about some motherf**king actors and Oscars. It just ain’t that deep.”

Hubert also did not agree with Jada asking other people in Hollywood to boycott the awards show. “And here’s the other thing, for you to ask other actors, and other black actresses and actors, too, to jeopardize their career and their standing in a town that you know damn well you don’t do that,” she said. “And here’s the other thing – they don’t care. They don’t care! And I find it ironic that somebody who has made their living, and made millions and millions of dollars from the very people you’re talking about boycotting just because you didn’t get a nomination, just because you didn’t win. That is not the way life works, baby.”

On Fresh Prince, Hubert played Aunt Viv from 1990 to 1993 before she was replaced by Daphne Maxwell-Reid. During her rant against Jada’s Oscars boycott, the actress called out her former on-screen nephew – whose work in Concussion was snubbed by the Academy – for not helping her and her co-stars negotiate raises while she was on the show. “Karma’s a b**ch,” Hubert exclaimed. “You ain’t Barack and Michelle Obama, and y'all need to get over yourselves.”

No.
It's amusing when Chris Rock calls the Academy Awards the "White BET awards".

It's borish when someone is driven by white guilt to question what needs no questioning.

A 2 year perceived drought for the black community doesn't even come close to racially motivated voting by the academy.

This is Spike Lee trying to regain relevance, and when braindead liberals take the bait it's bad for America.

If someone were truly serious about fighting race inequality they wouldn't worry about an awards ceremony that is famous for high profile snubs nearly every year.

Shame on these posers for polluting an otherwise worthy cause.

I do find it a little... Questionable... When a bunch of old fat white guys speculate on whether a historic black figure would or would not be "embarrassed to be black" today.

Seriously... Neither you, nor I nor any of the other old fat white guys know enough about "being black" to be able to make that speculation. It's weird enough that the thread is a bunch of angry fat white guys arguing over what constitutes racism... Let's not let it get more weird than that.

OK.
Cacman's argument doesn't have to presuppose that the oscars are the ying to the BET yang.
In fact, he is saying they are NOT.

The Oscars are inclusive for all races.
The only ones crying are a few black entertainers.
Yet only Black Entertainers have an award program EXCLUSIVELY for them.
One based on color.
Not character.
Which probably fares well for Spike Lee.

The Good Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would be embarrassed to be a black man today.
