^^^ Meant no offense with my cynicism towards cod. My apologies.
Any day fishing is better than a day in the office.

Walleye is good eating and a lot of fun fishing. And I love salmon right out of the smoker.

Last saltwater fishing was for black-tail shark. Due to geography don't do much saltwater fishing.

No offense taken... I realize I sounded a bit like an ass in my response, that was unintentional... Personally, I don't like cod... Rock cod - particularly what they call gopher cod - and ling cod are amazing though...

I had fresh caught salmon at a five star restaurant once... It was so good it ruined regular salmon for me... I used to eat a lot of it, but just don't care for it anymore, especially the farm raised stuff...

I've never had walleye but their glassy eyes scare the crap out of me, hence the lack of desire to fish for them...

Completely agree, any kind of fishing beats any kind of work... I actually enjoy a little trout fishing or even crappie/bluegill but the lack of water here over the last few years has really turned me off to it... Pretty sure once the son and daughter are old enough to go with me I'll be enthusiastic about it again...

Just last year I caught my first yellowtail... and my biggest Dorado. I'm hooked. Pun intended.

And yellowtail tastes awesome. Sashimi...

I've done a lot of fishing, and thus far rock cod/ling cod fishing is my favorite kind of fishing to do... I'm over freshwater for the most part... Rock cod tastes way, way better than any freshwater fish... I've never had any interest in catching a walleye, that's for sure... and I don't care for salmon... Overrated...

I would love to get out on a yellowtail/dolphin trip one of these days, but rock cod (which isn't actual cod) fishing is a ton of fun for me... I powder coat jigs and tie bucktails all off season and then slowly donate them to the ocean floor throughout the fishing season...

ya I'm in CA... bass fished for several years... it's ok, but really not my thing... I actually just threw all my crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics on craigslist to get some money to support my ocean fishing habit...

my local reservoir had the world recorded spotted bass for awhile... I've caught a couple of nice small mouths, a couple of big largemouths, and a handful of decent spotted bass... other than that, caught lots and lots of 12-14 inch bass...

again, it's ok, but it's got nothing on ocean fishing... first time I hooked into a 15+ pound ling cod, I knew I'd found my new favorite species to target...

I'm afraid to book a yellowtail trip cuz I can't afford to do those all the time and I'm pretty sure I'll love it... even more afraid to catch a dorado, for the same reason...

Yep... $245 for the overnight trips, but to me they're worth it. $145 for the 3/4 day to the Coronado Islands... passport required, but they're still biting.

Last walleye hooked into was a 23" 10lb'er+ with an ultralight and 4lb test. Took over 40-minutes to get in the boat. Forearms where on fire and I thought I was going to loose the rod a few times. Catch was recorded with Ohio Fish & Wildlife.

Smaller walleye are better eating though.

I usually book out of H&M Landing in Point Loma. They have boats operating all winter, but many of them hustle during spring, summer, and fall and take the winter months off. Not as many folks wanting to go now, so it isn't worth their while to make a trip.

I have also gone out of Dana Point, but not nearly as much luck out of there as Point Loma. My boss and I launched his boat out of Dana Point and just fished 1-2 miles out in the kelp beds and caught yellowtail.

That is sweet! I'd probably get pretty addicted to walleye fishing if I pulled in something that size...

I caught a 7 and a half pound rainbow one year and fished for nothing but rainbow trout for about two years after that... Nothing reinvigorates my appetite for a specific kind of fishing like pulling in a monster...

Assuming I get a refund this go round, it will be the first time in many many moons I don't have to use it to pay bills. So I'll put it in savings towards a new fishing boat for when I retire.

Not as much as last year, but enough to buy a couple things I want, and a couple things the wife wants. Sweet!

I spoke with my tax lady about the whole "interest free loan to the gov't" thing. She agrees with me, 100%. Claim single zero and get a fat refund.

She went on to say "99% of the people telling you to keep the money each month wouldn't do dick with it". She actually said dick. She curses more than I do.

I'm terrible with money. No way would I have enough to cover taxes come new year.

My other employer I was with for 8 months underpaid on taxes, I ended up paying 300 this year. Massive disappointment since I'm used to getting enough back to cover the holiday credit card indescretion.

Must be one of the 1% as I don't refer to auto-deposits into mutual funds, IRA's, and cash savings bearing interest as doing "dick" with it. Good you found a tax lady that tells you what you want to hear while your paying her bill. The Country in general doesn't save as much as it should.

I don't trust the guberment with my Social Security or how they handle it. I sure as hell aren't going to trust them with my savings.
There's always a better alternative to giving your money to the guberment for free, and then being thankful when they return it to you.

I also have auto deposits, so I think I'm good.

Again... if you win the lotto are you going to take the annual payments, or the lump sum? Most folks would take the lump sum, because you can actually do some things you'd like to do with it. I prefer to have a windfall each year rather than keep it. I've actually had to write a check for taxes before and it left a bad taste... I'll overpay a little.

Personally, I believe social security is a f***ing ponzi scheme and I think they should definitely let us keep that money and invest it ourselves. If you piss it away... have fun working the rest of your life.

I paid into it for 20+ years (I don't now), but may not ever see a dime of it because I'll have retirement incomes.

Getting a tax return vs hitting the lottery are two completely different things, and not even comparable.

On one hand you say SS is a f***ing ponzi scheme and you think they should definitely let us keep that money and invest it ourselves, but on the other hand you are OK with over-paying your taxes, giving the guberment an interest-free loan, and not investing the monies yourself? That makes no sense whatsoever.

You paid into SS for 20yrs, may not see a dime of it, but are still OK with giving the guberment and interest free loan???

The guberment will charge you interest on taxes you owe, but not pay you interest on the money they owe you. Yeah... that's a good savings plan. I rather pay a little at the end of the year as I've saved more than I pay, and that includes the accountant fees.

IMHO any tax preparer that tells you to give more money than necessary to guberment isn't properly doing their job. Instead they should offer you different alternatives to choose from, just like they would do if you where able to invest your SS money. But that's just my 2¢. Congrats on getting your small loan back. Sorry about the 20yrs of SS money thrown out the window.
