Terrible officiating! Terrible!

I've got the Caps tonight for a 5er if anybody is interested.

Are you sure about that??? His play may have contributed to the Pens trading him.
There's a fine line between old time hockey and taking dirty shots. Orpik crosses the line on many occasions.

Capitals’ Brooks Orpik suspended three games for hit on Penguins’ Olli Maatta
May 1, 2016
"The resulting injury and Orpik’s disciplinary history — he has been suspended twice previously — led to the ruling."

Brooks Orpik frustrated with his penalties
October 30, 2015
"Orpik leads the team with 12 penalty infraction minutes for six minors. His average of 1 minute 30 seconds puta him on pace for 123; he had 66 last year. Orpik, 35, hasn’t had more than 70 penalty minutes since the 2008-09 season, so it’s unlikely that trend will change this year; after just eight games, it’s too small a sample size to accurately project Orpik’s penalty minutes. Orpik’s penalty minutes rank 40th in the league.

Thought you where rooting for the Pens Gummy???

i am for the pens but have always liked orpik - he, to me, is a throwback defender

i just enjoy the sport and try to be more objective than the typical homer

brooksy had a whopping 24 penalty minutes this past year [*was injured for a time], 66 the year before, 46 the year before that, 32 the year before that...[so on and so forth]
kris letang, for example, had 66 penalty minutes this year and 79 the year before

his last suspension was the 2005-2006 season

"dirty" is purely subjective. its like porn: you know it when you see it. but i think we can all say that the hit on maata was dirty. as far as measuring "dirtiness," if it is by any actual measurables [penalty minutes, game misconducts, fighting majors, suspensions] it is hard to say that brooks fits that category. he is relentless and hard hitting in a day and age where many guys play a prettier game but there is a difference between a bruising style and intent to injure.

Another great game!
But another game that brings controversy over contact in a fast moving, physical game.

Letang's hit on Marcus Johansson:
From the start of the series in Game it was readily apparent the Caps had a target on Letang's head. Letang has taken a number of brutal, unpenalized hits since Game 1. I've never seen a player have his helmet purposely knocked off only to have the penalty called against the him for loosing his helmet as in Game 2. Ovechkin had his hand in Letang's face trying to push his helmet off within the first 30 seconds of play tonight. Letang was even cracked in the back of the head with a knee only to be considered "incidental contact". Considering the attacks Letang has been under, IMHO the hit against Johansson could only be considered a defensive hit to block what would have been a crushing collision to himself. There is no comparison to the Orpik hit on Maata which was clearly late AND with intent to injure. Letang lifted his shoulder in a defensive position to protect himself

Unfortunately the Caps will get what they have been trying for since Game 1, Letang will probably be out/suspended for 1 game. If it would't have been for Orpik's blatant late hit, Letang's hit would have been considered "old time hockey" and retaliation, and no suspension would be discussed or considered. A fine later - maybe. But comparable to the $2500 fine for the knee sweep on Sheary. That should be all it is, but they have to keep it "even" for TV ratings.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out and sets up the game on Wednesday!

Go Pens!

Shoulder to head contact, and Letang was leaving his feet as he assaulted Joh's head.

Not as bad as the Orpik hack, but Letang should sit a game for that one too.

If the NHL does not penalize these dirty head hits, then you will get more and more vigilante retaliation.
The same will happen in society at large if the courts and judges don't lay the smack down on violent criminals. Sooner or later, folks will deal with it themselves.

A very tight game! But the Pens where able to pull it out in OT!
The Caps couldn't take advantage of Letang's suspension, or manage the Pen's speed.
Murray was awesome again in net. He's in the zone. I don't see any reason to pull him and rush Fleury back into the net.

Maulkin's hit on Winnick was clean. No fine. No suspension. He dropped his shoulder and didn't leave the ice until after contact. Plus Winnick returned to the ice.

If the Pen's can win this series, I think they have a real shot at winning the Cup!

Go Pens!

Ok all you Pens fans. IF they make the finals vs Blues, I will take Blues to win the Cup for a 5r.
Anyone want the Pens?
The bet is void if either team does not make it to the Finals.

Cmon, are you Penguins........or are you Chickens??

It's annoying that the new nhl and all the new fans over analyze every hit and clamor to make it a sissy sport like they are trying with football

I'm not a Pens fan but they are going to be a hard out for any of the remaining teams. They have what it takes to win it all. YMMV 🌫

Well CRAP!
Aside from the Pens loosing, it was a disappointing game. Thought it would be a lot closer
Stupid penalties, and stupid turnovers by the Pens. The Caps where aggressive, the Pens left them too big of a gap, and Holtby was tight in net.

Now it does get interesting. Wonder what's up with Hörnqvist? And Orpik will be back for the Caps.

Hopefully the Pens can finish this at home on Tuesday.
