Each year my wife has a Yankee Swap for her family, and theres a lot of them. None of the men are cigar smokers, only when there free. The'll pick one of my cherished children from the humidor, half-ass smoke it, leave in ashtray, go for another drink, forget where they left it and go for another. This year I'm thinking about using this as an opportunity. Going to load a spare humi, with all the mistakes/dog rockets I bought this last year, hope the choke. Let the cigar sucking inlaws come. Anyone, have similar stories??

Last years SuperBowl party at a friends. Several of us are smokers and we came prepared with some nice ISOM's. One guy states he's a smoker, gets gifted a nice cuban, and smoked it for about 5 minutes.
I'd suggest a bear trap in front of the humi's.

That reminds me of another good one, have friend at sportmans club that has friend that does business in Europe and brings him Monte Cristos, he only smokes when people give him freebies. Saw him at dinner the other evening and he tells me europe friend gave him ten cigars a few months back, and was smoking one tonight. I told him I wished I had a friend like that. I asked him what other cigars he has collected in his humidor, his reply was, "Whats a humidor?", what a waste, his monte probably was no better than a White Owl that had been on the shelf for five years, lol, . When he smoked too, he would take few puffs, put out, re-light, and repeat process for four hours, lol,.

Mr. Mean, I have a friend that I gave a humidor, lighters, cutters and plenty of smokes. I thought this might keep him from taking one of my smokes each time we go out. But he never has any cigars with him.... but he always ends up puffing away. The kind of guy that takes your last beer. At least he is consistant.

I hate to sound ignant, but as someone relatively new to this new found peice of heaven on earth called cigars, I have to ask what ISOM means. Please advise after the chuckes die down. I just found this site over the Thanksgiving holiday and went a little nuts on my first auction. I am hoping not to be disappointed with all the smokes I bought that I have not heard of.

RZ,ISOM=island south of miami=Cuba. I would suggest that you do a little research before buying cigars. That way you don't end up W/cigars you may not like. X

Two stories ... One, my non-discerning neighbor will smoke absolutely ANYthing and pronounce it a good cigar ... he actually bought Hobos and claimed to like them, but then he drinks wine that comes packaged in a box and likes that too ... after seeing him leave a good cigar half smoked, I vowed to never give him another and I do his picking for him by having one "ready" when I know he's coming or go to get him "a good one" while he pours the wine if I don't have forewarning of his arrival ...

The other concerns a friend who is really a cigarette smoker, but will smoke a cigar from time to time. He has NO idea of what's good and what's not and will typically only smoke cigars that are given to him ... I doubt he's ever bought one on his own ... at his "getaway" home a couple of weekends ago, he invited me behind his bar and proudly showed me his "cigar collection" ... 3 sad smokes in a box ... one, a tubo labled "Hawaiian It's a Boy!", one Gacia y Vega and a Baccarat ... he asked if those were pretty good cigars ... I told him the Baccarat had the best chance of being good, and he asked how long they'd stay good in the paperboard cigar box he had 'em stashed in ... I asked how long they'd been there and he said oh, I dunno, probably no more than a few months ... I was able to maintain a straight face, but advised him he really should get them humidified or smoke them pretty soon ... then, this past weekend, he crestfallenly told me his teenaged son had raided his cigars ... the Baccarat was gone and only the Hawaiian tubo and Garcia y Vega remained ... I told him he ought to make the kid smoke both the others back to back and inhale them both as punishment ...

Thank you. I kind of looked at my recent bids as a research project. I am in Vegas and have frequented a cigar store in town, but thought trying some new stuff would be a good move. I figure I bought a bunch of 5 packs and will take it from there. Of course, I am open to suggestions. That is one of the great things about finding this cite, people who know and are willing to share knowledge.

I went to Europe this summer with a friend of mine. We picked up a couple of Trinidads and saved them for the right night. That night came after a long day in Venice. Too bad the guy is a cigarette smoker and burned through a whole stick in no more than 20 minutes. What a shame.

There's a guy at work who just started smoking cigars, and he is always hitting me up for one. I see this as the perfect opportunity to unload the large amount of "free" cigars I got when I bought a nice humidor from a mail-order store we all know of. I don't mind giving him a smoke whenever he wants. Anyone else want some?

Welcome, I got on this site about a month and a half ago and only been smoking three months. The guys here and girl (can't forget echick) are very helpful and knowledgeable. Do some searches in the the discussion boards for some recomendation on mild med and full bodied smokes sepending on your taste.

Culley's second story reminds me of my father. He's been a cigar smoker since I was born, got hooked on the "It's a Boy" cheapos he bought almost 30 years ago now. His daily smoke is El Producto. My brother and I are both cigar smokers and have tried to get him to move up to the better stuff. Last year I got him a nice selection, including an Opus X that I really wanted to keep for myself.

I was at his house for Thanksgiving and checked out his "humidor". It's a plexiglass box with no humidification or hygrometer at all. In it he had a couple of Macs, a couple of RyJ's and some cheapos, stuff I've seen for a buck a stick at an expensive local place. The Macs still looked smokeable, but the RyJ's were super dry and starting to unwrap.

I already bought him a nice selection for xmas this year, but after seeing how he stores his cigars, I'm either going to give them to my brother or keep them for myself. Maybe I'll bid on some of those Lone Wolves everybody so highly recommends to give to dear old dad 😉

My brother-in-law bites the end off, then licks the whole cigar like it was forbidden fruit, then lights half of the end, steams the **** out of it for about 5 minutes, then eats the rest. It's no wonder my sister considers cigar smoking "repulsive".

That is definitely disgusting. I've heard of old timers licking cigars add moisture, and moving the lighter from front to back, but nothing that bad. Yeesh.
