DHS has now banned New York state residents from taking part in (including renewing) the Trusted Traveler Programs.

This is apparently because NY allows illegal immigrants to apply for NY driver's licenses, and blocks agencies from being able to look into their database to find undocumented immigrants.

This was announced on the Tucker Carlson show.

Think about the layers of this...

1 - This really implies that the "Trusted Traveler" programs really don't do anything other than verify your identity with the DMV. That should be a real red flag right there.

2 - Policy is now being announced on fox shows.

They do background checks as well. I was considering getting it but I only travel once per year and I value my money more than the annoyance of standing in a longer TSA line.

I mean, we've all assumed they do a "Background Check" (this is not a specific thing, and may involve a variety of actions).
But what their response to NY indicates to me is that their "Background Check" is not in-depth enough that removing access to the DMV records significantly hobbles their system.

ie... mostly they just checked with the DMV to see if anything was on there of interest and collected a check from the government.

another example of the anti-immigrant policy goals of the Trump administration...in line with his negative stance towards states that have "sanctuary" laws in place...he will punish those states, even though their economic history shows immigrants, including illegal ones, have been beneficial...he's convinced most cons that immigrants are less than human and are a threat to America, and by banning them, America will be great again...

what happened to state's rights, small government, keep the feds out of state's business cons?

Please do tell when he has referred to immigrants as a whole as less than human and has called them all a threat to America. He has never done this, but you go ahead and continue to conflate his stance on illegal immigration as a stance on all immigration. Just makes people like me make you think you are a liberal parroting liberal talking points. Not that my opinion is of any matter.

If you aren't a legal citizen or have the appropriate legal statuse to be here then you should not be getting any type of government identification.

So you're for breaking laws and zero enforcement of them?

We have a legal path to citizenship. Millions have used it over generations. To allow those that cannot even take the time to become a citizen front of the line status and enjoy what it brings and it's entitlements...NO.

Talk to those that have gone through the proper steps to become a citizen. Afterwards then you'll see how out of step and unrealistic you sound on this issue.

As for the DHS...pull the plug. It hasn't caught any "terrorists" except those guarding the turnstiles going through your luggage.

Um.... these are state drivers licenses. Shouldn't the state be allowed to make that decision?

But this is sort of tangential to the point.

Should the States be allowed to decide who's legal and who's not? Is that really their authority?

That's not really in any way related to a driver's license.

sh*thole countries...invasion...rapists and murderers...

I won't do all the work for you, but I urge you to Google "Trump immigration policies"...a benign and neutral search...

his objective is to reduce the number of LEGAL and illegal immigration...American minorities feel less positive about this because of the imprecision of enforcement efforts...

If these countries are not **** enough to deserve the title "****hole" then why are people risking the death of themselves and any children they bring along crossing deserts with little or no water to get to the US illegally?

If 10,000+ people charging a border is not an invasion then we have a very different definition of invasion.

Are you saying MS-13 are not rapists and murders? (this is whom Trump is always referring to when he makes this comment).

Let's just let MS-13 in without any immigration policy. Santa Muerte, Santa Muerte, send your MS-13 onto me for the sins of the liberals must be baptized in blood and fear.

I typed in exactly what you wanted. In order...1,2 and 3

https://cmsny.org/trumps-executive-orders-immigration-refugees/  Some wacko website that generated foot traffic.

https://cmsny.org/about/  CMS works with policy-makers on international, regional, national and local levels; scholars and researchers; faith-based groups; non-governmental and community-based organizations; and other civil society groups. It enjoys consultative status at the United Nations, and regularly participates and intervenes in UN processes. Talk about sovereignty?

https://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/immigration/  White House policy. Nothing more to say except read it.

https://www.thebalance.com/donald-trump-immigration-impact-on-economy-4151107

Trump faces an uphill battle. Up to 1% of the total population of Guatemala and Honduras may be apprehended along the border this year. These numbers will only increase as global warming worsens conditions in Latin America....HOW DARE YOU!

https://www.thebalance.com/about-us  They really have no immigration policy "experts" there. The site is like a splintered Yahoo! search engine with guided categories.

I can keep on going but based on what YOU wanted, it doesn't really detail what you're looking for in a professional or knowledgeable manner. If you want to take US immigration policy lessons from the web then at least know what pond you're jumping into. The UN is a muckhole where the US is the whipping post.

All I'm concerned with on the matter is what we've been told for DECADES. How many hundred of millions of dollars were set aside for a border wall, border security and strengthening our porous borders. How many administrations? Now, we actually have someone that's holding it all accountable and he's the bad guy? No, no, no, no, no!

granted our immigration policies are a mess and need major re-writes...

executive fiats to reverse previous decisions and flout our heritage of a powerful nation built by immigrants is not the way accomplish this...it does serve Trump's purposes though...which is to demonize people from other countries and close the doors to only a select few, which appeals to the xenophobes and far right nationalists among us...the Statue of Liberty be damned...

Americans, as a whole, are much more positive about immigration: these American values are at odds with what the Trump administration is doing...

sample question from the poll: On the whole, do you think immigration is a good thing or a bad thing for this country today?

76% say it is a good thing
