So I have a cat. We have cat toys. I noticed for some reason he plays and fetches yellow or blue balls more than the pink or red ones. Do the blue and yellow ones smell different? Out of curiosity, I Googled it and this is what I learned.
Cats have two types of cones in their eyes, which are responsible for color perception. Humans have three types of cones, which allows them to see a wider range of colors.
Cats cannot see red as well as humans. Cats see red as a shade of gray, similar to how people who are red-green colorblind see it.
Cats can see blue and yellow. Some evidence suggests that cats may also be able to see greens.
Cats have a harder time focusing on red, orange, and green objects.
Cats rely more on brightness and movement to see the world around them.
Cats have a wider field of view than humans, around 200 degrees, which helps them detect predators and prey from the sides. Humans peripheral vision is around 180 degrees.
Cats have a reflective layer behind their retina called the tapetum lucidum, which enhances their night vision by reflecting light back through the eye helping them see well in the dark.
Based solely on color perception, my cat is likely a LA Rams football fan and a Milwaukee Brewers baseball fan.
