Eliminating the DOJ would also eliminate both the FBI and the AFT, which I assume you meant to say the ATF, as they are part of the DOJ. But, that makes no sense because the Constitution does carve out a spot for Federal Criminal Statutes. So a means to investigate and prosecute said violations is required. Thus the role of the DOJ. As far as the ATF is concerned, they’re akin to a narcotics division within a metropolitan police agency. Whether or not such a division is needed is debatable.
We don’t live in a vacuum on a secluded island so we need to establish and maintain relationships with other nations. To what degree is again debatable. To do requires a mechanism. Hence the State Department.
Not even going to take a stab at the Education Department.
All that being said, we have come a long way from the thirteen colonies. Our form of government needs to keep pace.
When the Constitution was written the primary means of conveyance was a horse drawn buggy. Not much need for stop signs and red lights then. But, obviously times have changed.
