Procedure recovery going really well. Only one anti-inflammatory and one muscle relaxant, with a couple puffs of weed yesterday and I was out of pain the rest of the day. NO pain today. GOOD INDICATOR of likely success!!!

So, I have been trying to get cuaght up on all that "you turned 50, go see a doctor" stuff and today, in addition to some bloodwork I got the first dose of the shingles vaccine. I have gotten a LOT of shots in my life, but this was the first time I heard the syringe "gurgle" as she gave me the shot. It sounded like when you try to squeeze out the last bit of dish soap from a squirt bottle. I asked the "tech" who gave me the shot what the noise was and she didn't really answer. Maybe it was just a well timed fart or something.

Pain Management procedure this morning.

Just local anesthesia in doctor's office. No thank you to Xanax or Valium. I don't get anxious about stuff like this after having my neck and back injected a couple hundred times over the last 30 years. In fact, I am going alone and driving myself. Radio-Frequency Ablation is the name of the procedure. In my case, it is being used to burn away four upper thoracic (T4-7) sensory nerve-roots.

Basically, it's simply a needle tip placed up against the nerve root and then an electric current from wires attached to the needles. The microwave tip of the needle heats up. This, in turn, burns away the nerve root. The procedure has multiple other uses. But, the cool thing is that the doctor uses video fluoroscopy: x-ray video streaming in real time like a movie. I actually like watching the needle as it approaches my spine. 🤦

Lasts 18-36 months. Had it several years ago and it worked well. I have had two sets of trial injections of local anesthesia to the nerve roots and both were highly successful.

I had that done on my C7 outlet twice. It is a life changing experience. I hope you have the best results possible.

Saw orthopedic again last week for my frozen shoulder (aka adhesive capsulitis). Injection, given at first visit one month ago, did nothing.

I don't like his suggestion that it will resolve without surgery in another 6-18 months.

That's way too long for me... I have not swam in six months now. So, yesterday I had a second MRI because the first one's quality "sucked" and it might show interval change over the last two months.

Maybe he will find that it is something that a simple arthroscopy will fix. If not, perhaps p.t., but I have been doing it myself and it is not helping.

Why can't I just have a little problem that plainly requires a minimally invasive, very simple, arthroscopy to fix?

Doctor's office called today. MRI results are back. He wants to see me real soon (Wednesday) to go over the findings. My interpretation of the circumstances is that there is an operable lesion- or he would otherwise make me wait a month to see him, like usual!!! 🙏

Surgery is never a good thing, but when one definitely has something wrong and doctors can identify it precisely, I believe in aggressive action vs. conservative care, which in my case would be 6-18 months of waiting to see if it will heal on its own. That is too long for me considering I have already had this problem with no improvement or exercise for six months.

I just want to be able to get back in the pool...

Hope all works out with the shoulder Robert. Hopefully it's a easy fix. Chronic issues with joints along with back/neck issues suck as I understand them. Luckily I haven't had major issues with those parts of my body yet.

Separated shoulder from a high school wrestling injury sometimes talks back to me. Broken ankle from college beer ball softball game sometimes talks back to me. Sciatic nerve sometimes talks back to me. As long as I don't do anything stupid, it's nothing major.

Luckily I don't have any major issues but I sympathize with those that do.

I'm getting to that age that sometimes when I wake up in the morning my body whispers to me "Don't do that again" even though I don't think I overexerted on doing anything.

My mom fell and broke her hip, but only minimal, non-displaced fracture and perhaps just 1" long. She got very lucky on this one. The operative incision is about 2", just enough for three screws. He said it took all of just ten minutes. That's it!!!
She is now in a rehab facility for another 1-1.5 weeks and is doing exceptionally well!

Me... Got my money back from the first MRI because doc told me the MRI and radiological read both sucked.

Got a second MR... adhesion and spurs. I am unwilling to wait 12 more months to see if it might heel on its own. It's been 8
months already and I am sick of it. Have not swam since.

So, full ranges manipulation under anesthesia followed by arthroscopy to clean it all up.

Surgery date August 28! =d>

Good luck Robert. Had my right shoulder scoped for spurs and was back to playing golf in 4 weeks. Hardest part was Medicare made me go through very painful PT before they would authorize the surgery. Bassturds!
