Max, I've tried a few Gurkhas and a couple were okay but wouldn't buy another. Try Arturo Fuente, I've never had one I didn't like.

Gurkha for the most part makes mediocre cigars - at least most of the ones on CBID. There are a few awful cigars and a few good ones. I still have a few good or decent ones, but the current ones are few. Avoid anything infused and tubed as a general rule, but the Ghosts are pretty good. Any cigar that is highly rated is suspect as many of them got that award years ago and the quality has generally dipped since then. I've smoked 850 or so Gurkhas and still pick up a few if the price is right. If you need a recommendation for any of them, drop me a PM.

According to my limited research (…which could be wrong…), Gurkha’s offered here are all, or mostly all, licensed by the Mothership and sold as “real” Gurks, when, in fact, they’re not. A quick peek at the brand’s website doesn’t even list any CI-affiliated stores as retailers so iffin’ you still have a hankerin’ to try a Gurkha or two, look at those vendors instead.

Does this mean that the ones sold at retailers not listed are not real / authorized Gurks?

I think anyone who buys Rocky Patel cigars probably should also buy Gurkhas.

Buy less smoke less, enjoy better choices.

Or don’t. They’re your choices man.

I’ve got a lot of fivers of RP. I did enjoy the Vintage 1990 petite perfecto, I think it’s a 4.5 x 42. But the others I’ve not appreciated at all. I see that the RP 60 is quite popular on CB and prices went through the roof right past MSRP. Having a mixed bag of results w/RP, I decided not to risk it on the high bids re: RP/60
EDIT: Z, have you ever tried anything by Caldwell? Or any of you guys have an opinion?

Caldwell has some good cigars, as a matter fact there's a Caldwell Midnight Express in the box I sent to you this morning along with some other cigars I enjoy so something for you to look forward to jeebling.

I haven’t been blown away by any Caldwell but I also haven’t had a bad one. Think I went through three or four different lines from my local shpo then lost interest in trying more. Not bad at all. Certainly better than Gurkha or offerings from that absolute spanner RP

Thanks Pops, I’m looking forward to trying that.
Z, thanks for the feedback and your other suggestions as well.

Caldwell……like Z said….nothing bad…….some pretty good…………….but I haven’t made a box purchase either.
Some of his Corojo offerings are good (ie. Long Live the King)
I almost bought a box of those a while back…..cause, well…………you know……

The only Caldwell I smoked under ideal circumstances (Blind Man's Bluff) did not cause me to buy any more.

I was a fan of the Gurkha Class Regent, Centurian, Nepalese Warrior and Legend (?) way back when. I haven't bought any Gurkhas for years. I probably still have some Regent and Nepalese still sitting in the bottom of a tuper.

The blends probably have changed since I was buying them and now sold under the same name or different name. Plus, I'm sure there are a bunch of new ones out there that I haven't tried so I can't comment on anything that they are putting out now.

Oh damn, are RP’s considered bad? Maybe my taste for quality is broken 😅. I like their vintage 2003 Cameroon

Thanks PapaWhiskey! I wasn't really determined to try Gurkha's but have been seeing a few people smoking them at the local cigar bar I go to so I figured I'd ask... didn't mean to start a **** storm! hahaha
I do but Fuente's, a few different ones and loved them all. All I really wanted was a little input on something else to try outside of the norm that I've been smoking and assumed I'd get a few recommendations here?

I can recommend stuff I like, but keep in mind, I smoke cigars that are considered good for my demographic (I.e., poor azz graduate student) but maybe not for most of this forum (I.e., upstanding adults who are retired or have good jobs).

I like the Fugazi COTY line quite a bit. I also tend to like the Caldwell stuff. They put out good sticks and don’t charge a fortune for them. When I’m feeling a bit fancy, I pick up some La Aurora Preferidos when they are on sale. Their Cameroon one is stellar.

Edit: although even I stay away from Gurkhas
