I seldom listen to NPR or watch PBS. They are always asking for donations. There are far better places to donate to.

Garrison keeler GOT WOKE / ME TOO MOVEMENT CANCELED...

AND IT WAS A REALLY REALLY STUPID Example...at the very height of the ME TOO SCARE....

I THINK HE PUT his hand on some skanks shoulder and complemented her? It wasn't a Harvey Feinstein hotel room rape scenario or a Charlie Rhodes bathrobe shakedown at his apartment...

NPR Editor Blasts the Public-Funded Company for Political Bias and Activism

In a scathing account from within National Public Radio (NPR), Senior Editor Uri Berliner blasted the company for open political bias and activism. Berliner, who says that he is liberal politically, wrote about how NPR went from a left-leaning media outlet to a virtual Democratic operation echoing narratives from figures like Rep. Adam Schiff (D., Cal.). The objections have long been voiced, including on this blog, but this account is coming from a long-standing and respected editor from within the company.

Beliner details how NPR, like many media outlets, became openly activist after the election of Donald Trump to the point that the company now employs 87 registered Democrats in editorial positions but not a single Republican in its Washington, DC, headquarters.

In his essay for The Free Press, Berliner notes that after Trump’s election in 2016, the most notable change was shutting down any skepticism or even curiosity about the truth of Democratic talking points in scandals like Russiagate. Berliner said that NPR “hitched our wagon” to Schiff and his now debunked claims.

Berliner says that he was rebuffed in seeking a modicum of balance in the coverage about the coronavirus “lab leak theory,” the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, Hunter Biden’s laptop, and the 2016 Russia hoax.

As discussed on this blog, NPR repeated false stories like the claims from the Lafayette Park riot. Berliner gives an account that is strikingly familiar for many of us who have raised the purging of conservative or libertarian voices from our faculties in higher education:

NPR C.E.O. Faces Criticism Over Tweets Supporting Progressive Causes

Katherine Maher, who took over the public network last month, posted years ago on Twitter that “Donald Trump is a racist

By Benjamin Mullin
April 15, 2024

Katherine Maher, the chief executive of NPR, is facing online criticism for years-old social media posts criticizing former President Donald J. Trump and embracing liberal causes.

The posts, published on the social media platform Twitter, which is now called X, were written before she was named chief executive of NPR in January. They resurfaced this week after an essay by an NPR staff member who argued that the broadcaster’s leaders had allowed liberal bias to taint its coverage.

“Also, Donald Trump is a racist,” read one of Ms. Maher’s posts in 2018, which has since been deleted. Another post, from November 2020, shows Ms. Maher wearing a hat with the logo for the Biden presidential campaign.

“Had a dream where Kamala and I were on a road trip in an unspecified location, sampling and comparing nuts and baklava from roadside stands,” Ms. Maher wrote, an apparent reference to Vice President Kamala Harris. “Woke up very hungry.”

Ms. Maher, who had not worked in the news industry before joining NPR, was the chief executive of the Wikimedia Foundation, a nonprofit that supports the popular online resource Wikipedia, when she wrote many of the posts that were now being criticized.

This article is a fascinating, introspective, honest look at NPR. I wish more reporters had honesty like this, and the ability to understand and report on what the truth is.

I’ve been an NPR listener since the mid nineties and I will disagree that it’s become this polarized in the last few years. The last few years it’s just in everything…..not just one or two programs.

I also disagree that defunding isn’t the answer.

This baby needs to go with the bath water and I don’t say that with glee.

Read the article. Was great. They jumped the shark in 2020 with Floyd, the CHOP, supporting the burning of Portland, Minneapolis, Kenosha, BLM, Trans and Trump stuff. They couldn’t help themselves.

Chapter a Day wasn’t immune. The string of books with the alphabet soup people being the protagonist had to be long.

Surprised Garden Talk survived. They could have put a new spin on what Cross-Pollination and got into renaming (for the sake of disenfranchised women who lost their husbands) Weeping Willows.

Sorry, but they shouldn't get any **** money.

You want.to compete you don't need a taxpayer funded backstop. If they're that great they don't need it. Same for Amtrak...i can make a case for USPS but...that one was born with a govt tit attached to it.

Read the tax payer pays for 1% of NPR’s budget. I’d be for cutting their earmark down by 50% and see if they can actually consider all things.

Would be funny to hear End Racism for 30 minutes and then watch them swallow their tongues for the same amount of time with a Pro Racism guest.

Must listen radio.

Our local am and now also fm talk radio channel has a garden show on the weekends….funny thing is he’s a raving lefty, and despite him occasionally slipping (can’t help himself either) everyone who calls in is nice. And the morning local show host even gets people joking about it on his social media.

Funny enough JPR our local NPR station (that carries NPR) doesn’t do anything like that, it’s all about what’s going on in Ashland or at the college in Ashland. Ashland used to be a cool town….now it’s dead to me I consider it part of California.

Not quite advocating that either. Sorry, racism on the air needs to die a quiet death. My point is we can use a scalpel and carve off touches like NPR and we'd still be in debt up to our ears. The constant bile, the quiet interviews of people that you really don't want to know should never be paid for with the taxpayer dollars. They get that AND hold "telethons" like they're going out of business every quarter...makes me laugh. "For your generous monthly donation of $1000.00 you will receive a tote bag! Won't you see your way to help us help you in providing all of this content. Now we take you back to this once in a lifetime documentary of ABBA." No thanks!

Oh.

And the author has resigned.
