Having had time to digest this a bit longer I’m wondering if this isn’t much less nefarious than portrayed.

People tend to see things through their eyes rather than through the eyes of the person responsible for the outrage so judge things accordingly.

For better or worse French people tend to have a much different outlook on life than Americans. As a nation they are much more tolerant of things considered elsewhere as outside the norm.

The event director has stated that the production was an inclusive depiction of “Le Festin des Dieux” which was painted in 17th century. The production mimicked that work with fair accuracy. As far as the use of LGBTQIA+ actors the people of France have been embracing that lifestyle for years.

So it’s entirely possible that they gave little consideration to offending Christians from American and simply celebrated their love a wine in a way comfortable to them.

Of course this would run contrary to the narcissistic view that some people hold dear.
