Personally, if me or mine are facing a long and painful end then assisted dying should be an option.

But then people drag their god into it, declare my suffering end to be sacrosanct, and my rights over my very own life go out the window. Because it’s not really MY life now is it?

^I don't entirely disagree with that. When people decide they want to end their lives they either commit suicide with pills, guns, knives or by other means. If they make the decision of their own free will and the doctor is willing to assist... ain't my bidness.

If it's just speeding up the inevitable and eases suffering, why not? I did it for my cat. Would do it for my dog, too. It's each person's private decision and they will each answer to God for it.

In reality, no government control/law is going to stop an individual or their family/friend from ending a life. The latter might want to be damm careful they don't tread on laws against murder. That alone should cause most to reconsider participation, especially since the deceased will not be around to give them an alibi. You absolutely do not need an MD to figure out how to off yourself.

When a government implements a policy of euthanizing people for any reason, it is a slippery slope to move from medical reasons to economic reasons, then for convenience and on to outright extermination. This is already evident in Canada.

I also do not want the medical profession to be involved in killing patients, it's a bad idea for many reasons.

It was evident in Nazi Germany, the USSR and the CCP. "Hindrances", "undesireables"...call them "deplorable"...all terms used to cover the fact that it was easier to kill people not as perfect as the "dream".

ObamaCare and it's death panels to the rescue.

Trudeau To Be Humanely Euthanized

OTTAWA β€” Amid growing public outcry across the country, the Canadian government announced that embattled Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would be humanely euthanized after his resignation.

The announcement revealed that, in accordance with what has become a Canadian tradition, the old, unuseful prime minister would be quietly put out of his misery to prevent him from becoming a burden to his fellow citizens.

"He has lived a full life but has now exceeded his usefulness," said Benjamin Cloutier, a spokesman for the Canadian government's Department of Euthanasia. "We are thankful for Mr. Trudeau's service and have assured him that he will meet his end peacefully and painlessly. It's the Canadian way, eh?"

Trudeau was stoic in a brief statement confirming the end of his life. "We put up a good fight, but what are you going to do?" he said. "We achieved a lot of historic things under our leadership. Most of them were just really, really awful, but historic nonetheless. I am honored to have served as prime minister and bid all Canadians a fond farewell. So long, folks."

Following his formal resignation, Trudeau was expected to have a brief reception with family and close friends at a local Tim Horton's for coffee and donuts before being escorted by government agents to his final resting place.

At publishing time, Canadian officials revealed that memorial services for Trudeau would be held later in the week, where citizens could look forward to ice fishing, lacrosse, a pancake social, and the traditional 21-moose salute.
