Rfenster isn’t that smart.

He’s just that much smarter than you MACS.

Pretty sure 98.2% of the general public isn’t intimate with the numbers, but because I’m not an expert I’m not allowed to have an opinion on anything.

Thanks. I appreciate the input.

I'm not a math whiz, either... but 1% of our GDP depends on exports to Canada. It's 18%, at least, for them... and some say it's as much as 43%.

It's refreshing to know you're an economics major as well as a law major.

MACS wrote:

Wah! Wah! Wah!

Where did you get that 1% figure?

1. "Trade between the U.S. and Canada accounts for about 14% of the total US goods imports, and 18% of total US goods exports."
https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/americas/canada

2. "Canada accounts for about 14% of US goods imports and 18% of US goods exports. The US and Canada have the largest trade relationship in the world."
https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/americas/canada

You are dreaming if you don't believe the U.S. economy NEEDS trade with Canada. Sure they need us more than we need them economically, but that in no way means the U.S. can't get hurt bad.

So, they bought the goods and had them in their stores...and then removed them from purchase...yeah, that's brilliant!

Usually that works on someone owning a liquor store franchise and THEY have the product on consignment.

But hey I’m no expert (please don’t yell at me guys!)

Before Donald Trump took office, Canada had tariffs on certain U.S. products. Still, these were generally in line with World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). These tariffs were relatively low and applied to specific categories like agricultural products, dairy, and poultry, which are sectors protected under Canada's supply management system. For example, Canada imposed tariffs on U.S. dairy imports to protect its domestic dairy industry.

Before President Trump took office, did the United States impose tariffs on Canadian products imported from Canada?

Before January 1st, the United States imposed tariffs on certain Canadian products, particularly during trade disputes. For example:

Steel and Aluminum: In 2018, the U.S. imposed a 25% tariff on Canadian steel and a 10% tariff on aluminum under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act, citing national security concerns.
Softwood Lumber: The U.S. has long imposed duties on Canadian softwood lumber, with rates varying over time due to ongoing trade disputes.
Dairy Products: While not a tariff, the U.S. restricted imports of certain Canadian dairy products under trade agreements like NAFTA.
Before President Trump took office, what tariffs did Canada impose on U.S. goods, and what percentages were there on various products exported to the US?

Before January 1st, Canada had tariffs on certain U.S. products, primarily in sectors protected under its supply management system. These included:

Dairy Products: Tariffs ranged from 200% to 300% on items like milk, cheese, and butter to protect Canadian dairy farmers.
Poultry and Eggs: Similar high tariffs were applied to chicken, turkey, and eggs.
Grain Products: Some grains faced tariffs, though these were generally lower than those on dairy and poultry.
These tariffs were part of Canada's long-standing trade policies to support domestic industries

While we get only 8% of our power in CT from Canada, other northern US states get a larger percentage from Canada. Shutting off that power would really hurt the US. Canadian Oil is another thing we get and if they shut that off, Gas prices would skyrocket.
Interesting that Trump stated that the people who made the last US, Canada, Mexico trade treaty were terrible. It appears that was made during the first Trump administration.
I think another thing Canada should do is rename the Gulf of Alaska to the Gulf of Canada.

Tariff's dating before Trump... that Canada imposes on the US.

Milk 270%, cheese 245%, Butter 298% Chicken 238%, Cars and TV's 45%, Sausages 69.9%, copper 48%, aluminum 45%, steel 25%...

What is FAIR about that? Trump is asking for FAIR trade, and NAFTA was anything BUT fair to the US.

And China just imposed 100% Tariffs on Canada... is CNN or MSDNC reporting that? Is Canada bitching about that?

Nope... crickets.
