It’s sure, I say it’s sure quiet around here, you could hear a caterpillar sneakin’ across a moss bed in tennis shoes.

Are you getting a volcano light show?
How far is it from you abode?

Sadly, no volcano light show. šŸ˜ž

Double sadness when it was apparent that doing the double nipple pinches wasn’t gonna be in the cards…nor the reach around. 😢

But, we had a GREAT dinner and talk story afterwards. Ribeyes and salmon along with sautƩed veggies, soba salad and white rice. Wonderful evening.

As far as the distance from our home to the Aulani resort, 20-something miles, which I know for you Mainland folks, is a drop in the bucket but for us islanders, FOREVER! But the distance was nothing compared to the travel time to get there. ā€œRush Hourā€ is such an oxymoron. Was close to a 90 minute drive to get to Ko’Olina but roughly 35 minutes to get home.

Good Wednesday Afternoon to All! Coffee, breakfast, range trip and lunch done.

I hear a nap calling, I need to prepare for dinner tonight. Mrs. Gene is preparing green rice. She got the recipe from our Columbian friends. It's brown rice cooked in spinach water, covered with browned boneless pork chops, shredded cheese, and slices of boiled egg. It's then baked and served, absolutely delicious.

Hit the JOnSiE lottery.

The underboss at the shop can't throw out his aluminum cans and is too lazy to take them to a recycling center so he's bringing in a large bag of cans in each Wednesday for me to take. He estimates 6 bags. 5 pounds a bag? 30 pounds.

A slick $20!

Used to recycle cans and bottles but we don't drink too much soda or juice and most of our bottles are of the adult beverage variety so they're not accepted at the recycling centers. Would take me 6 months to get a decent amount together. By then of course there were bags and bags of stuff that took up valuable garage space. Saving all of that and then getting $3.34 just wasn't worth it.

Now, when I have a bag full of crushed aluminum cans, I take it to my neighbor across the street. He does mostly bottle recycling but keeps it fairly neat. Probably only gets $1 for the cans I give him. Plastic bottles go to our grandkids' school, they have a recycling program so the school earns some money.

That's just nuts!

I go to the closest scrapyard, maybe I should inquire about rates a lil farther from home. Full bag of crushed cans and foil balls is 25-30lbs and I usually get $12-15. But the scrapyard is 3 miles from home.

I’m guilty of taking them to a place about two miles away, which is convenient, but I don’t know what the rate it. Makes me a moron.

If it is warmer tomorrow, think I’ll pedal down there and ask the rate. The 85 cent place is four miles away.

Started doing it just to keep the neighborhood clean. Then at the shop, I’d end up picking 8 cans, it’s like getting a penny an hour raise.

Keeps me humble. If Jesus can wash the feet of prostitutes, I can pick up some cans.
