Has shut down their bulletin boards. Swami Jim predicts we'll be seeing a multitude of new "faces" here in the coming weeks.

slimboli, get ready to bust some heads!

Slim, got my Montesino Pyramids yesterday. Beautiful cigars! I'm gonna let 'em hibernate until the New Year. I'll blow some smoke your way on New Years day. Thanks for the rec.

Very surprising

surprising indeed, and more than a little disconcerting ... if a lot of the participants DO land here as "newbies", Slim's gonna need a *&%^-load of deputies ... no single person could hope to keep up with that seemingly uncontrolable beehive of activity ...

I have not ever checked out other cigar forums. I wonder if they deliberate the same ridiculous topics we have discussed here. Ring gauge of box press, cello issues, humidification devices etc…

wany ... don't you even think of going anywhere ... your services will be in great demand ... Slim's gonna need some experienced hands like yourself among his deps ...

Wany, maybe they get more cerebral, like:

"What are your thoughts when you smoke a cigar"?

"How long do wait from time you clip the cigar till you light it? In order to let it breath does this improve the smoke, draw, etc?"

"How do you remove the cello from your cigars"?

You know thought provoking issues like the ones above!

I have checked out many of the other boards. There are WAY too many bulls**t postings. The riff raff will depart pretty quickly when they see the serious and thoughtful nature of CBid boards. Most will simply not be able to fly with us eagles!

I was just thinking, one of the things that BB did was give me insight on cigars to try, amongst other things. I think that their business is so good at this time that they don't feel the need to maintain a BB. I feel that in the end their business will suffer. X

xibbumbero --- did you (and anyone else) get the email from them saying WHY they had to shut down their BB?

Quote:

"The Bulletin Boards simply open up the company to too much legal exposure. Acting as the host and moderator, we essentially became responsible to a great degree for what others would post.

Moderating the bulletin board had become a 24/7 job. In our attempt to provide a clean board for cigar smokers, it became necessary to constantly moderate the board. We simply do not have the manpower to do this.

In turn, our own moderation was resulting in nothing but grief. We wanted to provide a place for people to talk about cigars, trade, etc., but in order to maintain it we constantly would have to edit threads and occasionally ban users. These banned users in turn would get upset and do everything they possibly could to make us miserable. We just wanted to talk cigars, not play sheriff ...

We have struggled to provide this as a service to our online consumers, but regretfully it is no longer possible. Between the labor, legal exposure, and a few other regretful aspects of maintaining an online community, we have decided that this service is best left to public forums."

... and it continues to amaze me, that some folks here still don't have a clue as to why I post the things I do to help keep things in line at this wonderful forum, and why our hosts here don't seem to mind ...

I stopped wandering over there long ago due to the over abundance of threads with alot to do about nothing. Almost every thread was jacked so that your were lead to read aimless rantings and spend too much time reading ambling rhetoric.
We can all do our part to not allow that to happen here.

Charlie ... pay closer attention to the 'and so on' parts!

What do you think they meant by, "The Bulletin Boards simply open up the company to too much legal
exposure. Acting as the host and moderator, we essentially became responsible to a great degree for what others would post."

... all I say is, I hope the folks here understand why it was necessary for myself and others to 'slap' (in a friendly way) people around every now and then.

Don't think it can't happen here ...

Food for thought, slim. No doubt about it. I e-mailed Gonz and suggested he put you on the payroll. 😉

... that's funny .... I e-mailed Gonz and asked him not to let Slim post anymore .... j/j Slim ...

Isn't it amazing though how 'sue-crazy' everyone is these days? Let's hold everyone else responsible for how stupid we can be. For the love of God himself, I hope I again see the day where "FREE SPEECH" is exactly that.

It's pretty f'd up that some *ssh*le can burn the American Flag in front of me with a smile on his face and the "police" allow them because of some Federal J*ck*ass we call "Judge" rules it as "Free Speech" but still reserves the right to hold us in contempt if we call him J*ack*ass in the courtroom.

Sorry - looks like I missed a few *'s ....

Slim should be ban!

to use a common post at the other board. That one is generally used in fun. I for one will miss it, but a lot of the FOGs over there could be brutal. Some of the more brutal ones started their own offshoot BBS where the diatribes against Saka, especially, are way beyond the bounds of civilized discourse. JMHO.

Steve, if you got info more than what is posted above, please email me. eleltea at at at yahoo dot dot dot com. W/O the extra ats and dots. I am bummed about it, and I bet X and some of the rest of you are too.
