I don't know about you, but I love this board for the 'ambling rhetoric' as Mr. Mean puts it. It, and E-Chick seem to give this board some unique qualities (not to mention character[s]). I vote we pay the Sheriff an allotment of cigars for his soon to be fine work and that the posse remain ready, willing, and able to assist him at a moments notice.

At the SF/EB Herf that was held in November, many posters from the "other" board were present ... I introduced myself to one whose "screen name" I recognized and he commented "oh, yes ... I've seen some of your posts ... you're one of those REASONABLE guys" ...

No doubt whatsoever in my mind what the nature of their problems were and the e-mail announcment they sent confirmed that ... my feelings are that a certain amount of "thread-jacking" is harmless and is part of the ambiance we enjoy here, but blatant BS is out of place and is, plain and simple, the sort of thing that brought that board down and could do the same here if it takes hold.

IMNSHO, we should all be on alert for that sort of thing and be ready and willing to serve as deputy board police in order to preserve the environment that exists here ...

apparently, somebody tried to upload porn to the irc chat. For Lew, it was the last straw in what he considered to be a continuing pain in the butt to moderate that bbs. For him, it was just not worth the hassle anymore

Too bad, I learned alot there, as I have on this BB.

I subscribe to the notion that we are guests on the BBs and should act accordingly. I would not jeopardize a forum that provides me with valuable information and knowledge on an interest/hobby which gives me great pleasure.

Hopefully, the CBID boards will continue to provide a quality forum for cigar lovers.

I wouldn't worry too much IMNSHO this board is quite tame compared to some of the sh*t that went on over there and others.I am going to miss the misc BB over there though,some of those guys cracked me up on a daily basis.As a matter of fact that particular board has shut down at least twice in the last few years and while you would see a few of the guys come over here and try to start sh*t they quickly moved on mostly because this BB is really somewhat low key.Ther are many cigar boards out there.There is even a newer one that is totally member sponsored,that is where I see most of the guys going.

On another note,the last thing any of you want to have happen here is to have Slimboli have anything to do with censoring this board...LOL :0)

I think if slim and e-chick will just agree to bury the hatchet (not in each other's backs) everything will be fine.

Slim can be annoying, but he's usually right. The only time I sense any malice from him is when e is involved. Then she gets mad and comes out guns blazing. Slim and E both give this BB part of it's unique flavor.

Let's protect and preserve our board! It's not like I have a life or anything, so I need this. Besides, where else can I now trade away all the impulse buys I've made on c-bid over the years?

The powers-to-be had a lot of problems with a few of the posters at this competitors board. In their feeble attempt at censorship, they ended up pouring gasoline on a fire, enraging a lot of other faithfull customers and posters. The e-mail that Slim mentioned in my opinion was a clever attempt to blame everyone else but themselves for the downfall of this BB. As a result, we WILL see an in flux of new members to this forum as I have witnessed an increase in memberships in other forums!

JR is correct about Slim and E-Chick. Wouldn't be the same w/o either of them. JMO, but I think the BBS has gotten better over the past year and has more energy than ever.

Danny mentioned something about the problem with porn being uploaded to the 'other' site ...

Just the other day, I was told by Gonz (in an email) that he has had to deal with a couple of users trying to post porn (at the picture post) ... and they post at least 2 or 3 per day (or try to, anyway).

To add to my earlier post, I did not mean to imply that the competitor was solely at fault. As in all debates, there is plenty of blame to go around and neither side(the competitor or posters) want to accept their share!

I never have used tht BB. But I wonder if the abuses over there have something to do with the end of us being able to use HTML. I can live with cut and paste links but bold would be a nice thing.

I bet the majority of them will go to one of the other two big BBs that we also use.

Jimbo's certainly got a gripe with me lately, it seems ... for some reason.
