Slim - For you DirectDSL was simply SBC(PacBell) DSL under another name. They were just a reseller like earthlink and all of the others. You will experience the exact same service quality with SBC or another reseller.

And when you say "rest the modem" it's called a "power down" and it lets the modem re-sign onto the network and usually fixes 95% of technical problems.

I work in the industry if you couldn't tell...

joemar4 --- from what I've heard from those who use it, and everything I've read on the internet about it ... cable seems to be outdated technology, and is not necessarily faster than DSL.

With cable there is the possibility of a great number of computers all on the same cable at the same time (from your neighborhood), which will slow down your connection. I've been told it 'bottlenecks' during peak hours ...

My new provider will be SBS (Pacbell) ... and they are my telephone company, so I think they will be around awhile ...

... they partnered with Yahoo DSL last year (so now it's SBC Yahoo DSL) for their web content, and it looks like I don't have very many choices. SBC was my last mile proivider for DirectrvDSL anyway, so I hope cwilhelmi is correct. If so, it will be sweet ... because they are charging me $10 a month less (for the first year) than DirectvDSL did, because I'm a 'new' customer.

Slim - even though I work for the cable company I have SBC DSL because my company doesn't have cable service in SF yet, I'm sure you'll be happy with SBC.

But you're way off base with your cable modem comments. DSL shares bandwidth at the station, and cable shares in the neighborhood, we both share and we both monitor network use in order to maintian performance.

The only real difference in the services are price and upload speed. We are $5-10 cheaper, and we offer 256kbps upload speed while most DSL providers max out at 128kbps.

No, Parcels will not save the Cowboys as long as Jerry Jones is in charge and still the owner, but the fights will be fun to follow!

Slimboli,

I don't know about outdated, I have never heard that. As far as I knew, cable modems where the newer technology!! Yes, I heard about sharing and the more people on the same grid, the slower the speeds. But I have had it for over a year and a half and it's just as fast as it ever was! .....and I live in LI, NY where there are plenty of people to tie up the grid!!

I had DSL and the speed can't compare. For example, downloading MP3's on Kazza with DSL I averaged 65-70 kbs. With the cable modem I average 210-235 kbs. That's a BIG difference! Also, like Cwilhelmi said, it's cheaper. I was paying $49.95 per month with Verizon DSL (local phone co.) With Cablevision, I'm paying $29.95 a month.

DSL is very good. Like I said, I had it for 2 years because cable wasn't available in my area, but when it was, I switched and I love it.

You won't go wrong with Pacbell and as far as going out of business, that's one worry you won't have. Good luck with it, heres wishing you great speeds and fast downloads!!

actuall, my hope is that the Raiders win this week, getting that weasel Al Davis all primed, thinking he's gonna get a bite from a sweet ripe peach ... then, I wanna see his sour mug as he sits on his bony silver and black a$$ in his box at Qualcomm (in San Diego), seeing Gruden's new team shut his team down ... oh yeah!! ... like they say on that Master Card ad ...

"seeing an expression on Al Davis' face that looks like he just took a big bite out of a lemon; ... priceless!!"
