You guys are such freaks about other countries not agreeing with the U.S. I thought y'all believed in autonomy and freedom? Or is that only for you and 'us'?

France and Germany are their own countries, not satellites of the U.S. Their people have different views and their governments respond to those views. Christ! When I read this bull**** you guys post on France I think that, despite all your b.s. rhetoric about 'freedom' and the like, you actually envision a one world dictatorship of the U.S.

The U.S. is not the only view of world affairs. There is disagreement. Welcome to the real world.

A couple of things...

Since when does 'grateful' mean 'do whatever we say'? Being grateful means living as a democracy, which means they may not agree with the U.S. Sorry. We don't rule the world.

If you think rebuilding and defending Germany and France was just about us being nice and generous, then you have a ridiculously unsophisticated understanding of history. Rebuilding and defending is a complex matter, related to a number of things, not the least of which is having strong economies so that world capitalism can function decently well. Letting Germany and France rot in post-war poverty would have ruined the world economy. Good strategic move, the Marshall Plan, for everyone involved. It was a noble, but not completely selfless, act.

I wish people in this country could see the value in doing the right thing for the sake of doing the right thing, not because it will get you unquestioned obedience. What a fucked up way to run a life or a country.

I read this **** and realize, sadly, that it means you don't really believe in democracy. You really want everything at your will, which is the essence of totalitarianism. If you believe in democracy, then you believe that these countries must act according to the will of their people. And the will is not with the U.S. That's the real world. Get used to it. We don't run the whole show. Sorry for the ego hit.

The notion that the Marshall Plan means France and Germany do whatever we say is the biggest, most pathetic, and delusional ego trip I can imagine. Think about it.

Sure, disagree but show respect for our views too. The French look down on us. They believe that their culture is more sophisticated than ours. They are purebreds that think there $hit dont stink.

Their economy sucks and they are jealous of the United States success and Power. They also have major financial reasons to support Iraq. Check out the web site Hog gave.

Yeah, see above. I wondered this too...all this trash talk about France and Germany, then getting pissy when the tables are turned?

Frankly, French culture is old and very accomplished. In science, mathematics, art, music, literature, philosophy, theology...few if any countries have that kind of heritage. We certainly don't have that kind of heritage. Maybe in 500 years, but not now.

And, remember that our economy sucks too. France doesn't have a corner on that. Our economy is so bad that the President is proposing to cut educational funds for children of military service men and women...er, that's another thread...

Cris, I should explain further. I would bet that the citizens of both countries are trash talking.

The important thing is how the Bush administration conducts itself, and the French Gov. The French are not very diplomatic at all, for supposedly being sophisticated, their gov doesnt show it.

Their president shows no respect for Bush or the US at all. I will not support any thing they import to us.

Another thing, France has a record of supplying arms to low life countries. Its not a secret. They are money hungry due to their economic statis. Thats not good either. Also they left the NATO alliance in 1966. They are not our freinds!

They still have the right to support what they want to, if they don't want a war without making sure it's necessary then that's their stance. Making jokes is one thing, but getting angry and boycotting their country makes no sense!!
