I was just reading the "What do you do/trade ?" thread by pgatour00, and was thinking it would be nice if there was a profile for each member (maybe with a pic). What do you all think? And how could I go about suggesting this to the powers that be?

Good luck ...

If you're serious (I know this would be a huge and time consuming task), you may want to go over to cigarsintl.com and contact Gonz ...

... he is the web developer and systems administrator, and a very busy man!

MWM, enjoy domination and tossing salad, seeks adventurous individual for a third... Oh! Sorry, probably not the profile info you were looking for...

Slimboli: Thanks. I sent him an email.

Seriously ... the forums here are operated within a retail website, and for ethical reasons or just customer protection, I don't think it will be done.

There may be some legal aspects involved here also ... I'm not sure.

If not the legal aspects, there surely will be privacy issues involved with bidders, who do not wish their photo's and personal information posted for all to see ...

And also, there's the issue that it will involve the use of a completely different (and more sophistated) program and web design, which will mean a whole new format for CigarBid ... which I 'm not sure they are willing to undertake at this time ...

Just my 2¢ ...

here's 2 more. As SmokeinaFuente stated on the trades board, "Occupation: I'm a CNC machinist for Mack Trucks (when I'm not laid off)." So many people are in search of employment now, folks could be inundated with requests if they say for instance, "I'm a machinist", hey! me too! And I need work!! Are there any openings? Oh Pleeeease!!?? Seems like it could get kind of uncomfortable. I'm sure this wasn't your intent, but there's the law of unintended consequences to consider...

I can see where SmokinAFuente is coming from ... as this is done at several sites.

Truth is ... half the info in those profiles is 'bull-pucky' anyway, and many don't even post a photo of themselves either.

To me ... most of them are just a waste of bandwidth.

Sometimes simplicity is the pathway to excellence. There aren't many bells and whistles but it's easy to use, has a good beat and is easy to dance to.

I guess those of us who are not butt ugly could put photo of themselves on the picture board.

But let's face it, some of us are SERIOUSLY NOT-photogenic. Not me, I ain't talking about me. Am not neither.

Sorry, it just seem that there is a lot of threads asking .."what do you do, what do you like, ....." The profiles would be optional and you could add general info. It's not like I'm asking admen to add SSN without telling people.

I have servers and webspace. I would gladly donate some space and a create a generic page where we all "see" each other, that is if Cbid doesn't want to do it. We could do it on only those of us that want and specifically ask to be put on the profile page.

SmokinAFuente

the posts might help you. either do a search or go back two or three pages.

CIGAR AND BOARD

New Guys - What does your name mean?

Where is everyone from?

MISC BOARD

Career (Job) & Non-Cigar Hobby

don't forget, even prisoners on death row have access to computers.

Rick? Are you on Death Row? Hey, that's a good question for a thread! If you were having your last meal, and could follow it up with YOUR LAST CIGAR! What would it be? For me? Galaxia!! Worlds largest cigar! And I'd politely request that they wait to throw the juice to me until after I was through thank you.

SmokinAFuente - thanks for the suggestion, I like the idea and has been something we've considered. There are privacy issues as Slim pointed out, but as always, it'll have to be moderated. The next forum release, due out later this year, will have all sorts of neat features - cigar reviews database, personal profiles, personal blogging pages, and all sorts of good stuff. We'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks for posting, and giving us all an update of your plans, Gonz !!!

I knew that in order to accomplish this new feature, it would require an updated forum program ... but didn't know that you were planning on upgrading later on this year.

I really like the idea of a 'cigar reviews database', but I'm at a loss as to what the 'personal blogging pages' are ... 😉

... also interested in some of the other 'unmentioned' features also. Would we be able to use 'emoticons' instead of the above semi-colon combo, etc., and will we be able to bold or italicize words and change the font size? Will we be able to link our email addies, rather than post the confusing someone(at)somwhere(dot)com?

Just curious ...

Cool!

I haven't looked forward to the release of a new forum so much since I was 18! =:-o (different "forum")

Oh boy! Now I'll be able to spend even more time avoiding work! Yippeeee!!!

Does blogging have anything to do with sex ? LOL JonR

When is later this year Gonz? Tap, tap, tap - LOL.

Think the blogging Jon refers to is a three way and being left out.
