it's the backbone of the music. Here's the interesting part though, I used to play in a band (when I was a kid). I always looked down my nose at drumers, I told my drumer, hey, you have it easy!! No notes! No cords!! No music theroy, relative majors and minors, you just have augmented groopies, not augmented 7th's... Until about 10 years ago, when I decided to record some of my own music. I played the guitar, base, synth, and I had to "track the drums". Well, I didn't want it to sound like a drum machine, so I tracked each part, put in the rolls, high hat play, symbols, splash, etc... It took WEEKS! Like 3 to 4!! PER SONG!! several hours per night!! Before I could hit play and record and lay down my drum track. My goal again, to make it sound like a drumer. I think I did a pretty good job. But, in the process, I learned a valuable lesson. Drums are harder than than look, MUCH harder...

As a Bassest, I have huge respect for a good drummer. Makes my job much easier. A bad one makes me look bad.

Whats the difference between a gynocologist and a drummer. A gyno bucks up your feet.

I agree with you homebrew. I never know what the guitarists are going to play. So you can't follow them. There is nothing like being able to lock in with a good drummer.

I have to agree with Homebrew. I started off as a drummer for about 10 years. I then moved over to bass and have been playing that ever since. When you get a bassist and a drummer that think alike, you get one solid sound.

BTW - if your into funky music, email me. A friend of mine is in a band here in Chicago. He's the drummer and the bassist will make your head spin (threedrcoupe (at) yahoo dawt com. They have a pretty good web site and you can listen to some of their stuff.

Well guys is nice to see all the love from fellow musicians. A drummers life is for the most part is unappreciated. I have heard every thing in my 30+ years of playing from "shut up, what do you know your just the drummer", to "You're a drummer, you arent a musician!" and my fav "Drums are EASY, try playing the guitar" Its at that point that I start playing a 7/8 grove to their 4/4 BS and have them tell me that IM off! And yes, if the bassist and the drummer are on the same page, it doesnt really matter what anybody else is doing, Its gonna grove baby!

JOHN BONHAM LIVES!

What do you call a guy that hangs around a band?

This is one of the MANY jokes I've heard about drummers

Nice tubs! I've always preferred white over colors, though I've owned both. My current kit is a 70's Rogers w/mixed cym's. I started out playing keys and guitar, which I think really helps my musicality as a drummer. Love playing with a rock-solid bassist, too.

You drummers might appreciate this:

The set I used to play on was my fathers. He bought them back in 1974 from a guy named Bill in Kansas City. He phoned in his order because he wanted the drums custom made. The bass drum was 22x18, the mounted tom was 14x14, 1st floor tom was 16x16, and the 2nd floor tom was 18x18. After all was said and done, and he retired, He gave me his '74 custom made Zickos drums 🙂 The only thing was you HAD to wear pants when you played those 😉 Just thought I'd share.
