This process works great and was passed on to me by good friend, Skip.
Instead of discarding the carboard hard used Boveda Packets, here is how you can bring them back to life:
1. Get some CI Cigar Juice (Propylene Glycol)
2. You need Distilled Water
3. A Tupperware type container with burping top.

Put all of your used packets in the Tupperware.
Fill the container using half CI Juice and half Distilled water.
Snap the top on.
Then wait 4-7 days depending on how many packets you do at one time.
Remove them from the container and let them air dry on some paper towels for a few hours and then place them in an airtight storage bag. They are ready to use anytime you need them.
They typically last 5-6 months left alone in that storage bag.

But wouldn't that make the packets 75/25 distilled/PG since the cigar juice is 50/50 already??

Just do this with distilled water, no reason to use PG. The Boveda still has the humidity control portion inside (the crunchy part).

I used to do this a lot but beads are easier, so I switched. Will still throw a boveda in an x40 herfador if I'm going to be traveling a while.

Correct, no PG needed. I throw all of the ones I get in packages in a tupperware container that has another small container of Distilled water in it. I then use them when I send packages.

Good question.
Yes. It is doubling up on the distilled water. But the CI Juice can get expensive. I will use one 16oz bottle every time I rejuvenate the packets. Which works out to be half the liquid in the tupperware container.
Each Boveda packet consists of a specially prepared saturated solution of pure water and natural salt. This saturated solution is contained within a water-vapor permeable reverse osmosis membrane.
Therefore, the amount of propylene glycol used in the dunking of those packets is plenty. It enhances the ingredients of the packets.
I use 7 humidors that hold approximately 150 cigars each. So I go through a lot of those packets and it became a real pain in the butt to buy a twelve pack every three months. I own around 30 packets.
You can probably use just the distilled water without the CI Juice. But I don't.
I've been doing this for one year and the packets give me that perfect (-/-2.5%) humidity that is stated on the outside of the packet. So this system works.

In other words, you add PG because it worked when you tried it that way, not because it is actually useful. The "natural salts" that regulate rH do not leave the packet since only water vapor can permeate the membrane, so adding back PG with the DW will at best have little effect (can't permeate the membrane), but could possibly cause problems (such as a less precise maintained rH that varies from the stated rH, or clogging the membrane).

Like Jamie eloquently stated, beads would make more sense for someone with as many cigars as you.

There is no need to behave like that. You had a good experience with beads. Well, God bless you.

They rehydrate much better if you don't wait til crunchy, I like the combo of beads and boveda, boveda gets dry I swap for a saturated/ hydrated one and rarely have to add to my beads

Set the packet on top of the beads to rehydrate. Come out like new.

I just started combining them.

Works for me.

ETA - I saw a similar post a while back about simply rehydrating them with distilled water.

I see no benefit to PG.

You're thirteen post in seven year is about re-hydrating beads. Then you get your panties in a wad when offered a much more straight forward approach with beads in Z's own special way.

Try rehydrating your beads on a cold winter night shorty after your rugby playing partner has drank copious amounts of warm beer just after he spits on the tip.

Only used distilled water but have experienced if they dry out they are much more difficult to rejuvenate. And they can only be brought back to life a limited number of many times. In the winter will place container closer to a heat register for a short time to create some heat condensation. Will let settle for a few days afterwards but seems to help speed-up the time it takes. IME it can take up to 2 weeks, more with big packs, to bring back. How long do you let the packs sit before reusing?

+1 for ^5 and ^32.

dubleuhb with easily best two posts in this thread.

I keep a small tupperware container sealed with a shot glass full of distilled water inside. I rotate packs through and have never had one stop charging or wear out. No need to immerse them or use PG....two weeks is about the longest I recall ever having to leave a pack recharging. Packs work well for desktops and for shipping.

dude.......don't be like that.....you just ran into a grumpy ZRX...

let me explain

ya see, there's a huge Cuban on these Boards named Raul......
JadeRose is Raul's "play-thing".....
ZRX has a bad case of "man-love" for Raul..........but Raul shuns him....

So, the only way ZRX gets to get a "sniff" of Raul, is to cuddle with JadeRose after Jade has been destroyed by Raul (which is fairly regularly)

And then, when JadeRose says "no" to ZRX....................well then, that's you get a grumpy ZRX.......

hope you post again soon........
