So... a dude who never went to college has posted a rant about how dumb colleges have become (from the time when he didn't go, I'm guessing?) and that's given a hearty "I agree" from two dudes who I'm guessing also never went.

A college education isn't for everyone (nor should it be). Having a college degree can open some doors that wouldn't normally be open. Just because you have a college degree doesn't make you smart (just look at mefog )

Now it is becoming so that a college education is not much, unless you have a masters or doctorate degree to boot.

I state when I am making a guess. There is absolutely nothing wrong with making a guess, as long as you point out the specific parts of your conclusion which are based on assumptions, and which have to be changed based on incorrect assumptions.

So, of the 3 people referenced, 2 did not attend college and are making "assumptions" about how college was "back when" without having been there then or now. I would like to point out that they do NOT state these are guesses or assumptions, but rather the truth in their mind. This is a failing.

As for you, the outlier who apparently went to college and is certain it is dumber now than it was when you went. Perhaps we need to explore this. When did you attend college? What sort of college was this (state vs private)? what was your major? Did you major involve statistics?... that last one might be important.

Ahh TMCetc... I don't go through life thinking I'm better than everyone... just you and others who draw poor conclusions. As for beating homeless people, I have full confidence you could manage to do that yourself. You just need to apply yourself.

I'm a high school dropout.

I did (barely) complete 10th grade.

Dropped out of college once.

Finally finished. Really, couldn't be where I am without college education, there's not an alternate pathway.

Didn't have to deal with much liberal bs/drama since I went to a satellite school in Gary Indiana. If you were there, you were there to get your chit done and get the piece of paper so you could get out. There were no parties (had to travel to the bigger state schools for that) there were no protests or other BS. You went, you did your time, you got your pass and you moved on.

He has said he was smart and got great grades, but there seem to be no academic awards with his name on them and he hasn't released any grades. He also does not speak like someone who was formally educated at a highly regarded Ivy League school.

Well, he doesn't have to release them. The University of Pennsylvania can or they can be leaked out. Pretty sure the information is out there already. In any case, getting into Wharton is pretty tough much less staying there. The point is that he's a complete douche and went to one of the finest business schools in the world.

Chit man, I almost applied to transfer there, but the $ was a bit much. The kid across the street graduated from there, but in engineering (kid now with kids).

As an add-on, I know or knew several Yale grads and I wouldn't give you a nickle for most of them. I know a guy with advanced degrees from Yale and Harvard that I wouldn't trust to take the garbage away. The only 2 guys that were good were an eye doctor and a dentist and the dentist was the best except for anger issues.

MACS... I generally tailor my tone to the individual with whom I'm speaking.

In this case, we have an individual with no first hand knowledge of what goes on in a college, ranting on youtube about how much dumber college students are.... repeated and "+1"'ed by individuals with no more information. This is completely ignoring the simple fact that people in college learn the information gleaned by people before them... so today's college student is learning information discovered by others who were well beyond college 20 years ago. The entire concept of education in a society with the written word involves each generation learning more than the generation before, even more quickly.

Hell, the simple concept of generalizing an entire generation of college students as "dumbed down" based on a few anecdotal incidents is worthy of my contempt and condescension.

I'm pretty sure college is still a real bitch if you're opinionated about anything the professor isn't. Which there isn't much in common that I have with professor's and others who have the Old European belief in a class system where only the formally educated deserve to get decent paying jobs and create wealth via entrepreneurism.
