Just curious, any racers here? Road race, drag race, whatever ...

My track car is a ~500 hp RX-7. Daily driver is a lightly modded BMW M3.

Good for you rayder ... I don't race on the street, I save it for the track.

I used to race Motocross, and flattrack. Motorcycles. Now I stick to enduros and trials.

When I was 19yrs old(1978), I had a 1970 Mach1 Mustang, HP 351 4BL Cleveland, C-6 HP Trans, Factory Ram air, Shaker scoop! Awesome paint & wheels, it was THE MACHINE!

In its day, it was a screamer(high 11's)in the 1/4 mile. It was too powerful for a young kid like me then.

I wrecked it, racing it one night. I had a little to much to drink(I lived in Phoenix AZ, the drinking age was 19), I hit a ditch, and lost control. Rolled it 3 times, and learned a lesson the hard way.

I went though a 100 ft of chain chain link fence, 8 steel poles, went right through a telephone pole like it was nothing, and busted down a big tree. I was going over 100mph when I rolled it!

I'm lucky to be alive!

The car was demolished! I walked away with no injuries, but my baby was GONE! It hurt bad.

Well I've rambled on long enough...hehe!...thats what happens after a few beers.... :>)

Used to go every weekend with friends to the drag strip. Had a 1969 Road Runner that turned low 12s with street tires.

It's always good to keep it on the track. We have a lot of "road racer" types around here. When I catch one I always ask if they have the guts to take it to a real track. SCCA has a ton of street stock classes that will fit just about any taste in racing.

These "street racers" would find a lot of ego deflation and maybe a true challenge in life if they choose to compete at this level. But of course a lot of them aren't in it for anything more than bragging rights and female attraction.

When I was a kid, I grew up about 2 miles from Fremont Raceway/ Drag Strip. Home of the Northern Nationals for several years. I got to watch NHRA grow up while I did. I got a lot of odd jobs at the track in order to get in for free. I never had the money to buy my own race car but I gave the brackets a shot with my 65 Impala. It wasn't a bad car for a sled. Got me more tickets than trophies.

Truely, those that wish to test their car can find a legal venue not to far away. Car clubs hold rallies, road courses, drags etc.
