And again I pose my question, "who defines institutionalized racism?" And again, I pose my question, what if this "reverse DISCRIMINATION" results in an over correction? Will those currently in the majority be molly coddled in an effort to make restitution? As long as there are people who feel the way you feel, there will exist a need to unfairly advantage one group over another. The key word there is "unfairly". And again, you dodged (very cleverly) my question, who decides? Those who believe they’re being oppressed? Will they ever forego an unfair advantage? Doesn’t that go against human nature?
What you’re missing is the nuts and bolts here. You view things from a utopian perspective and I view them from a utilitarian perspective.
Idealists in the 60s believed that through enhanced social services they could “lift” the underprivileged or some large percentage of them, “out of poverty” through a myriad of social programs and handouts. These could be viewed similarly to “reverse discrimination” since they give unearned benefits in the way of social programs, money, etc… to a class of society. However, after 40 years and trillions of dollars, the rate of people who “need help” expressed as a percentage of the population is virtually unchanged… What does this tell us about human nature?
It tells us that there are ants, and there are grasshoppers. There are also dreamers and there are doers. You my friend are a dreamer. You dream of a day when through government and ostensibly your own, manipulation of quotas, hand outs, and giveaways that they and you will somehow “evolve” human nature from what it is, into what it should be. More egalitarian, more utopian, more “fair”. You believe that one day, almost magically and majestically to a cavalcade of cheer the likes of which the world has never known, we will rise above bigotry and divisiveness and look back and laud the virtuous programs of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. When they will poll the heretofore “downtrodden and oppressed” under classed of our cast society and they will say with unanimity, “praise God, we are free at last”.
Here that buzzing sound in the background? It’s an alarm clock! WAKE UP! It ain’t gonna happen! Your proposed retribution will be on-going “in perpetuity” while those who’s ancestors ancestors ancestors reap the benefits of their ancient and long distant suffering. And who will pay? My ancestors ancestors ancestors. And you call it fair, you call it right, you call it justice. Your argument is pure emotion and caries with it no plausible hint of logic or reason nor does it address any of the points I raised, “typical”…
