Well, let's see where this comment by Dusty Baker goes:
"Blacks and Latins are better suited for playing in heat, yada yada yada yada , whoops, foot in mouth "

If a white manager would have said, "Whites are better suited for playing, etc, etc, " What kind of an outcry would there be? Hello, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc, where are you guys when Dusty buries his foot in his big mouth?

it sounds like the remark of someone who has no idea what he is talking about.

jimmy the greek got tossed out when he spoke of breeding blacks, when they were slaves, to have sturdy thighs.

the only study i am aware of is the comparison of blood pressure between blacks in this country, who generally speaking have higher blood pressure then whites in this coiuntry, to blacks in africa. the blacks in this country have higher blood pressure then the blacks in africa.

conclusion drawn was that blacks in this country live under great stress. constantly being made awae that they are out of the mainstream, but they must behave.

my old buddy charlie cowan, from the rams, told me stories about his treatment my management of the rams because his wife is mexican. an offensive lineman having to hold his anger would raise his blood presssure.

jacky robinson died too young after loosing his eye sight, all attributable to high blood pressure.

The points you made are all true and it is too damn bad that a person of Dusty's stature would be stupid enough to state such an innane "fact"! If Joe Torre or Lou Pinnella would have made a reverse statement, the wolves would be calling for them to step down! Racism does exist and it is called bigotry! Should be called stupidity!

Rick,

Have you ever considered DIET? (no, not you personally)

Blacks in this country eat a totally different diet than their counter parts in Africa.

This also holds true for whites or caucasians or what ever PC term I am. Asians in the US typically eat the same food as do their relatives in the east.

DIET can be a huge factor in Blood Pressue, and related coronary diseases.

However the error in his statement revolves around the reason that African-Americans were brought to the US because of their tolerance to sunlight. Slavery was clearly the issue at the time.

I do have to say that it's glad to see a stand up guy. Dusty has reiterated that he stands by his comments and hasn't tried to spin his comments to placate his critics.

The point is that if Joe Torre had made the same statements, the media and African American leaders would be leading a lynch mob after him!

This should be no big deal. No one should be that sensitive. Of course the climate in our society, left over from the slave trade is such that whites can't get away with saying something like this. We should all be tolerant of these kind of statements from minorities and maybe someday they will do the same for us. Nothing wrong with calling it to our attention though, but there should be no reprecussions for Dusty.

Yo sketcha and jgjam: "no repercussions" "standup guy", Jesse ( the fornicator ) Jackson would be very proud of the both of you. Yeah lets save the repercussions for the next Caucasian that says the wrong thing. JonR

2 wrongs Jon. If you say Dusty should take some crap for this, then you give pecident for the same toward whites. Neither is right. It's gotta stop somewhere. Be the bigger man, take the high road.

JonR... I think you misunderstood me...
I agree with you and the point I was wanting to make about Dusty being a standup guy is that he isn't trying to hide from his comments. He stands by them and I find that commendable in todays world. Too many public figures say things then try to weasel out when the public outcry gets too hot for them. I also agree with the other comments that a white manager making the same comments would be crucified by the press. But the reality is that Dusty didn't say anything wrong but some media can twist things completely around. I'm guessing that Dusty could care less (and I do too)what Jesse Jackson would have to say about his comments.

point well taken, but----
you are suggesting blacks eat a different diet in this country then whites. i don't know.

most of my friends eat pretty much the same junk food regardless of race, religion, or political afiliation.
