Everything I have read, has stated that Spanish cedar is what to use for humidors and all.
I have about 10 truck loads of 1"x2"x6' western cedar and got to wondering if that can't be used for humidor lining? Or maybe even build a cooler humidor or 30. 🙂

So, any reason that Western Red Cedar can't be used?

Use it in your closet to keep the moths out. Way to oily, sappy and aromatic for a humidor.

Actually, our batthroom is done in rustic cedar.
We pick up a load of cedar every weekend at the cedar mill for various projects. 🙂
I kind of wondered about the aromatic qualities of western cedar. Personally, I love the smell of it.
When I was in high school, I worked in the cedar mill and after a day of hard sweat, still went home smelling like cedar. 🙂

Just a few words of caution.

Only use Spanish Cedar in your humidors, coolidors, etc. Every other type of cedar is too aromatic and will ruin the flavor profile of your cigars. I'm not sure whether it will regulate humidity like the SC does either.

If you have a lot of regular cedar, maybe you can cook a deal with a lumber yard for a 2:1 swap? or 3:1? for Spanish? Not sure what the price difference is, but you get the idea...
